GRID Autosport aims to move the series back in line as a more authentic racing game...
...we hope that it signals a pivot which we're taking at Codemasters, to cater more closely to our core fanbase...
For GRID Autosport we've gone back to a more authentic handling style. It's definitely not a full simulation - we want it to be authentic, not clinical - but it's more towards that end of the spectrum than before. If anything, we believe the handling is actually one or two steps further towards simulation than Race Driver: GRID, to give you an idea.
22 locations with a combined route list that totals over 100... While we will have a selection of great city based locations it's the circuits that make up the bulk of the roster and there's a great variety on offer.
Cockpit view makes a return, and with it a dashboard view too, yes, GRID Autosport will ship with two in-car cameras.
The stated reasons were their metrics from online races showed that only 5% of players used cockpit view (which is obvious, since in online you want the absolute best view) and based on that they decided they could cut car interiors to allocate more assets to the exteriors and the racing venues.
So basically they made a flawed presumption by not tracking single player camera preferences and managed to annoy their "core" players who presumably like to race in cockpit in single player.
I've tweeted at them whether TrackIR and Oculus support is in, not crossing my fingers for a reply. My Twitter experience to date has been pretty iffy as far as responses go.
There was nothing full blow arcade about Grid 2. It was a good mix between arcade/simulation. The perfect blend IMO. Full blown arcade is the trash that comes from Need For Speed titles, generally.
Full blown simulation is not what I'm personally looking for in a Grid title, but that's where it's heading I guess. Sigh.
A proper Dirt for me would be rally (with repairs between segments), trailblazer, land rush (the only fun circuit racing in my opinion, since it is off road), raid, gate crasher, and hill climb (best part of the first Dirt).
Cut out gymkhana, drift, head 2 head, rallycross and all the X-Games nonsense and I'll be good.
I got Grid 2 and was disappointed there was no cockpit view. It seemed like this would of been a good game, but I just wasn't immersed and lost interest after a few races.
If the handling is like DiRT 3 but on tarmac I might be interested. Something that isn't a sim that doesn't think it is one can be quite good fun - NFSU2, DiRT 2 & 3 etc. If it handles anything like the previous GRID games it'll be terrible though, hopefully they've learned their lesson.

I was very disappointed with Grid 2, the worst part being how multiplayer was handled, we still have stints on Grid1 over Tunngle to this day, as the online experience has not yet been matched, and the lack of being able to host your own game properly is a disgrace, I have been on Grid 2 twice in the past two months and it's empty there are virtually no players left.
Ha, they'll never make GRID a fully blown simulation. Their market isn't in that area, their expertise isn't and to be honest, there isn't so much money in it (being a niche product, good quality competitors and an already mature market).
So, no...they are implying they are going back to an arcade style context, but with a more realistic handling style... more towards Gran Turismo than Grand Theft Auto
Looking forward to this. Played Dirt2 & 3 and liked them. Then played Grid 2 and thought it sucked.
I used to loved Toca Pro Race Driver back in the old days though, hopefully Grid Autosport will have those same elements.

Grid 2 was most definitely full blown arcade. The handling was so sensitive that the slight twitch of your steering wheel/controller control stick would send your car into a drift (which almost always ends up in a bad situation).
I most definitely look forward to how handling is done in this iteration of the Grid series. Because I liked the ambience and beauty of Grid 2, but utterly hate the steering.
Wonder if you'll be able to drift in GRID 3... it's the only reason me and my buddies continue to play GRID 1 to this day. The open field drifting map is the most fun you can ever have in this game.
I don't know if we will ever see GRID get Forza realism. I would love to see a game with Forza realism on the PC. I know that Project CARS is just around the corner but I don't think it will ever touch Forza 4 in the amount of variety it has car and track wise.

It looks too edgy and more simulation focused. I know many didn't like the game play GRID 2 but the graphics were very smooth and felt lifelike at times. This game looks more like a PC racing game from a decade ago. Looks like a step backwards imo. All for a cockpit view. Don't we have enough simulation racing games for PC?
