[Codemasters] Introducing GRID Autosport - Page 5

Codemasters, you're capable of making a full-on simulator. I'm not asking for Assetto Corsa or iRacing, I'm happy with something like Forza.

Do that, and you'll have my business again!

This. Assetto Corsa is THE true next-gen simulator. Kunos have said they're working in improving the visuals of the game so environments are up to the level of the car models, and I really do look forward to it.

My 23 bucks I paid for it have long paid off. It's nowadays my most played simulator, I nearly shelved LFS after I bought it.

But they won't . I played all the games since the original Toca Touring Cars (BTCC) on PS1... it's never been to that level of reality... so don't expect it.

I really would just love to have a decent physics model with cars having weight... then combine that with some real world licenses... BTCC, WTCC, V8 Supercars... whatever America drives (probably pickup trucks or something).

As far as I know, no one has the license to BTCC... or at least complete control of it. So... why not...

Is it possible to play with controller? I have an xbox 360 pad and really want something like Gran Turismo... but with an actual wheel to wheel racing element.

Yes, and they were asking for testers in their forums to iron the kinks with controllers not too long ago, as the game was engineered with wheels in mind.

I think they've got a proper setup now, although some users are reporting that if you assign the controller buttons and axis to what should be a wheel profile you get much more control over how the sticks and triggers behave, and thus get faster laptimes.

That's interesting... that could hold me over until it arrives. Does it have the pay for what you play thing like the other SIM racers do... or is literally you pay for the game and you get everything? Also, is there a single player experience yet... like leagues, championships etc... or it's still literally online and one off races? I'm not interested in playing online tbh... just like a good SP campaign like Gran Turismo or GRID smile.gif

Hmmm, might check that out on Steam smile.gif

It's not from an indie dev so I would assume it's a one off payment rather than the system iRacing has.

You pay for the base game with the content advertised in the main page, which includes those tracks and cars specified, plus a SP career mode (whose details haven't been disclosed so far), and of course the online mode and global leaderboard rankings.

Then they'll be laser-scanning tracks further down the road and selling them as additional DLC. The Nordschleife is a paid DLC track, but they've said it's because the licenses were very expensive and so is their laser scanning equipment.

So far all the tracks that have been done are of unmatched realism, as in, there are no better models out there in a commercial sim. We expect the Nordschleife to be even of further detail. You can feel even the tiniest of the bumps in the Imola pit straight, the slimmest of the tarmac height changes and rumbles of the Magione surface. It's truly masterful in what realism concerns.

The online mode isn't in the game yet, as they're focusing that the SP experience is flawless (especially on the AI... It's like driving against Rambo right now, lol). You can race the AI for fun, but if you try to do a somewhat serious full race against them you'll end up throwing the computer out of the window, as they are very sudden and rough in overtakes, braking, and so on.

There is no working pit stops either yet, but they say it's coming soon and will be in the final game, which is not too far away from completion (month and odd days I think?).

We get an update every two Fridays, so who knows what'll make it into this update. They are usually hefty and justified, adding trims to cars, usually new cars altogether, and sometimes tracks. Performance improvements are being done with giant steps, and the game runs muuuuch better than it used to.

They keep updating the car list in the website, so stay tuned for what's coming next. They also recently got a Corvette license!

Sidenote, if it serves of anything, Kunos is the team behind the simulators Ferrari uses for their training and showoffs.

What I might have not covered here (a lot of things) are in the FAQs, though: http://www.assettocorsa.net/f-a-q/

Very cool, think I will get it. I have GT6 but I find it difficult to maintain interest, I really need something to satisfy my pack racing needs. I watched BTCC from Donnington Park this weekend and loved it... the panel bashing, fearless overtakes and everything I love about racing. GT6 doesn't do that.

I had Race07 etc... but the AI isn't amazing and the engine is simply too old and dodgy when it comes to collisions to be massive fun. I got Next Car Game as well, but right now it's a long way off completion.

Out of interest, how much is the DLC and how much does it cost? I know I can look, but I don't want to be too obvious at work tongue.gif I would want Nordeschlief for sure... 100%

EDIT: I hope they laser scan and add Brands Hatch... that's such a fun track, especially the downhill first corner biggrin.gif

Those who buy it in steam early access (ie: now) get the first DLC for free, and the whole game is also cheaper.

I use a 360 wheel now (got a G27 too when i set it up) and it's perfectly good. Takes some fiddling with settings to get it the way you want it but they're actively working on it.

Don't know about brands hatch but they currently have Monza, Silverstone, several other big ones and the final version (or first DLC, i forget) will include Spa and the Nordschliefe.

FWIW I've had the early access several months and every single "bi-weekly" update has been huge progress. They make more progress each update than I've seen rFactor or iRacing or Race 07  make in years.
