Mercury S8 question

Thread Starter
So I am looking to move over to a case labs case after 24 years of building my own lc's. I am very much intrigued with the new s8. Couple questions:

I would like to run dual PSU's. The HDD caddy side is a big open hole as I won't be putting drives there, ill use the super top secret hiding place under the mb tray. Is it possible to have a second HD mount instead of the fan on that side so i can run dual PSU's? If not I guess I could "rig" it up and put the PSU in the spot and tape it down and run a ac cable out the fan hole. I hate to "rig" up such a nice case to do that.

Second: When ordering the vented front covers. Is the two fan mount removable to stack multiple 5.25 devices? i would still like to order wight he fan mount incase I want to add a 240mm. OR would ti be best or possible to add the two 120mm fan on the left side where the optional window is and mount the radiator there instead and keep the right side for 5.25 devices? Ultimately i need 2 optical drives and a dual bay open slot for the ROG Front Base lcd device.

Thanks for helping a newbie out smile.gif

I was looking at the Magnum m8 case or m10 but I really like the motherboard horizontal. So I guess my ideal perfect case would be the s8 with dual PSU's.

Open to all ideas?!

One more question on the m8 if you get motherboard reverse mount does it move the the flex bays to the opposite side so you can keep the motherboard area clean?

Sorry these cases are so new to me and some of the options are confusing.

On the S8, only one PSU mount is available. I suppose you could try and mod on on the other side, though a higher wattage PSU isn't a bad idea. There's actually two fan holes located on the bottom of the HDD area, and one on the rear, then one one the dividing plate between the HDD and PSU area.

You can order the S8 with the additional fan/rad mount separate if that helps, so yes, the solid flex bay covers could be removed and you can install ventilated covers and the dual fan/rad mount.

If you get the Motherboard reversed, the Flex bays go with it.

If you want an S8 but need an extra PSU, you could order the Pedestal and put the second PSU down there.

The S8 is designed for a single PSU. Now that PSU's are available up to 1500W, it's very unusual to need more than that (not to mention having a circuit breaker big enough for it). All of the Magnum series cases are designed to run dual if needed. Anything mounted in the Flex-Bays (including the 120.2 radiator mount) can be easily removed and replaced with something else. Thank you everyone! I just re built my rig with corsair air540. I put a rampage iv black, 4960x, 2 kingping cards and was going add a third but currently my ax1200i is not handling the load well and I'm hitting a wall when my gpu's max out. I'd love a ax1500i but another 2-3 months :/. So I figured I'd add another 1200i and add2pu and power just two cards with the second psu and the main psu for one gpu and rest of the stuff.

That sounds like an awesome rig. Pictures!

a 1200W PSU should have absolutely 0 problems with that load. Get it RMA'd or buy a new PSU. I say this because my 2 Galaxy GTX 770's and 3930K (with all my other crap) only pulls a total of like 600-650W with overclock. Even if both pull their max rating of 400W each, thats still only 800W, plus everything else thats like 950W MAX.
PS: Take a look at the Hercules 1600W PSU from Rosewill.thumb.gif

The two kingpins pull up to 450 each, 10 fans, water pump, 4 SSD's, 2 mechanical hd's, 2 optical drives.. 32gb ram and my 4960x running at 4.6ghz.. According to ilink it peaks a little over 1200 sometimes.. Adding a third kingpin card will put it over the edge. Not a fan of rosewill. Might go with a cooler master 1500, would like to stay with corsair though.
