PSU Efficiency Question

Hi, I have a question about PSU efficiency.

If I have a computer that runs 450 - 500W at peak load, what wattage PSU should I opt for to get the best possible efficiency out of it at peak usage?

This is important to me as the electricity costs are becoming really high at where I am living temporarily and every little bit counts.

You want to maximize your average efficiency. So, I recommend a top-quality 550-650W PSU.

No, it doesn't. Reviews done by XbitLabs.com, JonnyGuru.com, HardwareSecrets.com, and HardOCP.com have measured very similar efficiencies at both 50% and 90% of full rated power.

Your PSU must be able to handle more than your worst-case load, period, and if 500W truly is your worst-case load, then get a PSU that can put out at least 600W continuous (as determined by the good reviewers, not just labels). The best way to determine worst-case load is with actual measurements, not power estimators, which are often way off, almost always on the high side. A Kill-A-Watt can give a decent estimate, and the power draw of the computer will be roughly 80% of the Kill-A-Watt reading.

What if the PSU is 90%? Then wouldn't it be roughly 90% of the reading?
