Is a 280X $150 better than a 7870?

Thread Starter
I have a 7870 and it seems to run fine but with the new consoles coming out, developers are going to start making more demanding games. So is a 280X worth $150 more than a 7870? It will end up costing me $150 to get a 280X if I decide to sell my 7870.

But it doesn't seem to be worth that much more. Am I missing something? I would love to see 60 FPS comparisons between the cards rather than just numbers.

There are used r9 290 for 345 in the marketplace so I think that a 290 would be much better bet for the same money and you get 21% more performance in games(1080) and 1gb more vram an 10-20% more opencl performance

But which resolution?which cpu?which psu?

Miners.... they were the curse a few months ago but now you can reap the benefits of it now. You can get used r9 280x's under $220. Heck, even you can get r9 290's for about $300.

280x

I would prefer to buy from Amazon if I were shopping at Amazon. Maybe the marketplace has good deals also [like PontiacGTX mentioned]. I'm just throwing you some ideas + you got to keep in mind that miners were pretty hard on the cards.

P.S. I was assuming you were in Murica. Prices my vary country to country. wink.gif

I find it hard to believe you would be penny pinching when you have a sig rig like that.

Maybe it's a dream rig?

I'd either get a 2nd 7870/R9 270 or jump up to an R9 290/GTX 780. A 280X/7970 or 280/7950 would be faster, but its a small jump and not worth the trouble IMHO.

The rig is a trollish rig. I have nowhere near that lol. I just have a regular old FX 8350 and 7870.

I decided against getting a new card. My 7870 runs what I have fine. I think it would be most wise to wait until there is something that I can't run well and then upgrade. But upgrading for the future is kind of dumb I think.
