Mystery sound issue

Thread Starter
Ill be using my pc lately, and randomly my sound just STOPS. I dont get anything from chrome, vlc media player.. Anything, Sometimes I have to restart them to get my sound back. But in other cases like right now, Even that doesnt work. I open my volume mixer and the sound just isnt there. So it isnt my speakers .
My motherboard has VIA HD audio built into it. If that helps.. Not quite sure whats going on here or how to fix it.

I just found that if i hit the "test" button in my settings I can hear that, but nothing else makes it to my speakers. mad.gif

make sure check the cords going to speakers. if something is interrupting the signal, it might automatically switching to a different audio source.
can you re-load the original audio drivers?

do you have HDMI plugged in? that can carry audio too, could that be affecting your sound? check to make sure speakers are default audio device when that 'mute' thing happens. (also make sure it's not another program muting your sound)

How would I know if something else is muting my sound?
I do not have HDMI, just the green speaker cable going from my mobo to my speaker. Speakers are set as default audio.

I love this place, every problem Ive ever had pc wise I get answers and IMMEDIATE help. Thanks guys biggrin.gif

don't forget to check that cord...
what was the last thing you loaded/did before this issue? maybe a windows update? does the VIA HD audio have it's own prog? my realtek hd has a little monitor prog that I can not update or my front mic gets 'plugged in' and 'unplugged' at really random times even though I've never plugged anything into that input.
