Getting an RMA on 4770k.

Thread Starter
Hey guys, my 4770k went pop last week, I've been putting off buying another but I can put it off no more. I had a great chip, OC'd to 4.7Ghz at 1.3v, and I understand that i'm likely to get a chip that will struggle to hit 4.5Ghz with the new one.

What I am asking is, where's the best place to try to RMA a poor overclocker? I buy a lot of my stuff from Overclockers and I am certain if I RMA a chip there they will post it right back as working as soon as it lands on someones desk, now what about Amazon? Do you think Amazon will just post me out a new one if I list the poor OC'er as DOA? As they absolutely love posting things ASAP, I don't think they will even check the chip before they post a new one.

I realize this isn't exactly sporting, but I intend on RMAing a chip if it won't hit 4.5Ghz and only one chip, if I get another dud then that's on me.

I'll be damned if I'm paying nigh on £500 for two chips (dead one and the new one) only to end up with one that doesn't even hit 4.5Ghz!

This is interesting.

So, you had your chip running@1.3V for how many months? Temps? What kind of daily loads did you subject it to?

Also: Was it delidded?

It's all in my sig, the demise of the chip was caused by me putting 12v through the back of the mobo, you can read about it here.

Not to be rude, but I'm interested only in the question I asked in my first post, I just want to know the best place to RMA a working chip if it's a perfectly fine and healthy with zero questions asked. smile.gif

ive looked into it and if you're willing to spend a few extra dollars i think best buy is probably the best option for it.

their customer service reps make ... i dont want to say abysmal, but a small enough amount of cash to not care if you swap out the part. the excuse i would use is, it's overheating. and they would probably hand you a brand new one in exchange.

edit: you could probably even do so multiple times in one day if there is a store near enough to you.

double edit: hopefully there is a similar retail store in england. sorry about the total lack of observation skills.
