EuroGamer's preview of Watch Dogs.

Eurogamer's Tom Phillips got a hands on with an almost complete version of Watch Dogs, and in this preview video which features 6 minutes of brand new gameplay, he gives us his detailed first impressions of Ubisofts open-world, hack-em-up!

There's something about Watch Dogs' recent graphics debate that goes beyond skin deep. Games evolve between conception, unveiling and release - and after a five-year development it should be no surprise that things have changed. It sounds like there's now good news in the graphics department, but it remains to be seen whether the vocal minority that felt disappointed will have been won back. It wasn't simply that the game might look worse - rightly or wrongly, those players felt Ubisoft had cheated on a key part of the vision sold back at Watch Dogs' E3 2012 unveiling.

A part of that promise was a game in which you could control everything - where an entire city was at your fingertips, and the population's darkest secrets were there to exploit. It was a tantalising concept. Not only did the slice of gameplay shown tease a visually exciting next-gen open world, but the complexity of that world seemed a step beyond what we were used to. It was a virtual city where the population were apparently more than just polygons on a pavement, where they became believable inhabitants of a virtual Chicago whose lives you could delve into and even destroy - all at the click of a button.

Provides a preview of the game including mini-games and multiplayer which has a freeroam mode where you can apparently flag friends or foes.

GameSpot also have a video showcasing multiplayer.

Its sad that the only thing I know about this game is that the graphics were cut back.

Anything else I have no idea about, and thats not a good position to be in as the Dev.

Now Im at point where I would like to like the game, but will probably pass on this title for a while until I hear more feedback.

I cared about the graphics but I can't be bothered anymore, as long as the game has good gameplay and features I'm probably sold on it, it's a shame though.

Okay, I'll admit it. That game play looks very fun. Graphics just took a step backwards for me on this title.

Thank gosh. My faith is renewed. I thought the game play wouldn't be meh. But it looks like a blast.

.

Sad is to read people crying for the graphics when they haven't even played the game... judging a compressed youtube video is not nothing closed to happy...

Im speaking from an average consumer point of view. If all I know about the game is the scenario above, then its an uphill battle from there from purely a marketing angle.

I am hardly crying about graphics, and compressed or not, spotting differences in graphical detail isnt difficult to do at all. Especially in the manner that was displayed a while back which caused all the uproar.

But thanks for the slam none the less.

The 2012 footage looked much better on the same compressed Youtube video....

I'm still looking forward to this game but Ubisoft is dead to me...

Even though the graphics were cut back, I would be more than happy playing it in this state. I think it still looks amazing and I can't wait for it to be released. biggrin.gif
