780ti Question - Page 2

Above post nailed it.

I have yet to be memory limited with 2GB @ 1440P running 2x680 Lightnings (1448-1580core/7804-7980mem), but at 1440p or higheriI haveyyet to see a single game where more than 2x MSAA + FXAA/SMAA is beneficial, and most of the time, FXAA/SMAA is all that's needed.

With 2x 780Ti Classy (1400+core/7800+mem), haven't come close to being memory limited even with a 1440P center monitor flanked by a pair of 1440x900 portrait screens.

The whole VRAM thing is in my opinion one of the most overhyped "issues" in years.

I ran out of CPU grunt when pushing 4x 780Ti on an 8350 @ 5.3Ghz immediately (I only bought, and subsequently got rid of quickly, the 8350/Formula-Z setup to be able to have owned and used the platform, because I am so sick of people saying "Intel fanboy" or "you don't know because you don't haveone" when I ttrash the processors).
Even on my 3770K, delidded and a nearly golden sample (5.4Ghz with mild water chilling), I ran out of CPU before anything else.

Only the 3930K/RIVE will push the four without an immediate and profound bottleneck.

Based on these and many other experiences, I am confident that you will find yourself bottlenecked in any one of a number of other areas before you can even come close to a VRAM limit, with 2-3GB for 1080-1440p(+).

Always remember: VRAM Allocation =/= VRAM Utilization

Well its the same case with gtx 760 and 770 both come in 2gb and 4gb so its just a matter of what resolution and how many screens do u play across,in your case 3gb will be plenty for the next 3 years at least. But sometimes having more vram is better even at lower resolutions example gtx 460 768mb vs 1gb but in that case the 1gb model had more bandwidth due to fatter bus width.

3gb are enough if you are on a single monitor up to model Ultra HD (+ FXAA / SMAA Ultra)

Much of this high resolution, it makes no sense to use MSAA2-4-8x / SGSSAA 2-4-8x-consuming VRAM, and bringing down the performance.

6GB maybe can be used to a configuration of 3x Ultra HD
