Make sure to buy some Fujipoly EXTREME Thermal pads for the VRMs.

Ok, so here's the only place I could find where they were in stock, and the price is a little steep for me. How much of a difference will it make? I mean, for a college student budget, is it worth it? Plus, apparently getting it from Canada is a slightly higher price (duties and what not).

In all honesty?

No.

The passive plate is just a couple of c shy of the active plate. If you dont mind mismatched block/backplate then the EK one also contacts the rear of the card under the VRM section.

I have to ask, what are your intentions with the card? Are you a gamer or bencher?

The XSPC is top full cover block for lowest CORE temps. But if your on a budget the EK will do just fine and still keep temps pretty low. Ek is a good brand to.

Active cooling in the XSPC shows a good increase in cooling. A 7-18C difference on benchmarks from people on this site.

I really want it for the gaming experience, but I also enjoy the process of overclocking, so I'd like the option. Also, when I'm not at my computer I usually leave it mining scrypt just cause I like playing around with the whole cryptocurrency world. So, I won't be doing anything as intense as benchmarking, but I do want the most out of the card.

Haha, I'm definitely leaning towards the budget option, I just would hate to spend ~$100 on something that isn't satisfying (or even damages my new ~$400 toy).

Do the thermal pads go in between the card and the block?

haha ya i feel ya, buy a pc part go hungry for the week, hahahaha lol jk.

Ya if your on a budget the EK block is a good choice. And looks kind of decent.

Well good luck on your build bro. The only thing i could think of left to tell you is this.

If your in to this sort of light up show, some like it and some dont.

Yeah they are used for the VRM1, VRM2 and Memory. For the core you use Thermal paste. Thermal Pads come with all block and they are fine for Memory but VRM1 especially run very hot on 290X. The one i got with EK Block where really bad.

Ya the thick ones are really bad, alot of people said they got better temps with 0 pads then with the giant cheap thick ones on the backplate.
I think the ones you listed look pretty good. Just make sure to get the right thickness.

Then get a nice passive backplate,no real need for the active one
