[Build Log] miniROG - i7 4770k / GTX 780 Poseidon / Expanded H220 loop

This is my first log, so any feedback on the format is welcome...

I can't tell you how many times I've meant to start this, but I always seem to get to wrapped up in the build and forget to take pictures of the process and progress. I was debating on whether or not to start it at all at this point, as I'm nearly done with it - but I could use some opinions on the last part of the build, which is the only part that really requires much modification to anything. More on that in a bit.

This actually replaced my first ever build, and borrowed a few components from it. Here is the list:

Components
  • Corsair Obsidian 250D
  • ASUS ROG Maximus IV Impact
  • Intel i7-4770k
  • ASUS ROG GTX 780 Poseidon
  • Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 2x8GB DDR3 1600
  • Samsung 840 Pro SSD
  • 2x WD Blue 7200RPM 1TB HDD (RAID 0)
  • LG Blu-ray writer
  • Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1200W (I know, makes no sense - inherited from the previous build)

Cooling
  • Swiftech H220 expanded
  • Alphacool NexXxoS XT45 Single 140mm Radiator
  • Alphacool 45 and 90 degree compression fittings, and straight and 90 degree barbs
  • Alphacool 90 degree low profile elbow
  • Primochill Advance LRT tubing (Bloodshed Red)
  • 2x Corsair Air series SP120 High performance fans
  • Noctua NF-A14 140mm PWM fan
  • Distilled water with Redline Water Wetter

So, this build is a result of the novelty of the massive Cooler Master Cosmos II wearing off, and taking up way to much real estate in my living room. It was also rather loud with the number of fans I had going in there. I originally kept my MSI GTX 780 Lightning, but it was putting too much pressure on my mother board due to the power connector wires pressing against the top of the case (the optical drive cage actually - I may get rid of it once I find the time to set up a media server and rip my Blu-ray/DVD collection). I also wanted to water cool my graphics card, and then one day I found the Poseidon. The PCB is on the Poseidon is short enough to avoid the power connector issue, and I like the idea of not having to dismantle the cooler and void my warrenty thumb.gif

First iteration of the build - side by side with my mom's PC.

The Lightning just barely sqeezed in there (the PSU cables were a mess).

I started out with the UV LEDs from my first buid - think I'm going to go with white inside the case and I can't decide whether to keep the UV accents on the front or go with red... (also, my H220 was getting fitted with a new pump so I was rockin the stock intel cooler).

My only real documentation of building the WC loop - I was test fitting it here. It was quite a wrestling match, expecially since I had to pre-fill it and then install it. Good thing my wife had gone to bed because she would have been ashamed of my language.

After the cooling system was set up, I went about re-sleeving the PSU cables (and shortening them quite a bit).

The only trouble is, and I knew this before I started, is that the fittings are too tall and stick up out of the top of the case where the window should go. However, I wanted to expand the window to show the entire inside of the case anyway, so I am thinking I will just put some spacers between the new plex and the top, and with some kind of craft foam between to seal it. I was also thinking of making the window flush with the top, and just cutting out a raised portion where the fittings are. This is the part where I'd like some feedback if anyone has ideas. This part of the project won't start though until after finals are done next week - my brain will be fully occupied smile.gif

Thanks! I am trying hard to focus on exams but I really can't wait to get started on the top of the case. I was also looking into some RGBW LEDs that you can control over WIFI:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/top-emitting/high-power-rgbw-led-weatherproof-flexible-light-strip--rgb+white-led-strip/1711/

http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/controllers/wi-fi-led-controller-hub-wifi-con/1444/3367/

http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/controllers/smartphone-or-tablet-wifi-compatible-rgb-multi-zone-controller-/1800/4374/

It would be a cool feature but unless anyone knows of a cheaper way to do it it's not going to happen - I'm not going to drop over $100 on lighting...
