edit: op, if you really want PhysX, then go with a 780.

I don't plan to buy XFX I have had a bad experience with their gpu's on a few client builds, it's either Asus or EVGA for a 780 or maybe HIS or Asus this time if I get a 290

Asus however, I have had good experience with their RMA, I had to send in my m2n32sli way back when and they replaced it with the Crosshair 2 formula. As well a couple ROG boards that had to be replaced for clients and they did the advanced rma ( they send me one in advance and then I sent them back the bad mobo ) with those. I have seen horror stories with Asus rma around the forums as well though.

stay away from asus if going for the 290. sapphire, specifically the VaporX. for the 780, you cannot go wrong with EVGA.

forget the 290s and just go for the 780, since you want to experience PhysX. we have a member here (actually 2) who regretted it after they failed to make PhysX work with their cards.

edit: thanks for the rep but one is enuf.

I have a GTX280 leftover I was thinking of using for PhysX with the 290, but I never did get around to configuring it with the 7970 and driver hack. I think I am leaning towards the 780 atm.

What about the Asus 760 MARS? I see that it benches well with the 780ti and 290x, I do realize it is a SLI configured card and I was hoping to avoid that as well, perhaps I just talked myself out of that one, rolleyes.gif

Don't buy ASUS if you want warranty support.

The way I describe it to those considering is this;

ASUS does not have an RMA department and does not offer RMA's on their products.

That's it. That's not extreme, and not an exaggeration. That's just how they treat their customers. You are more likely to get your product back with no repairs done or ignored entirely for many weeks and months on end.

Here's what you find on OCN when you search for "Asus RMA"

Point taken, it will be EVGA if it is to be a 780. Though it would be neat and tidy with an Asus core of mobo, gpu, sound card, but that's just my ocd kicking in cheers.gif

Anyone have thoughts on the vram, 3Gb vs 4Gb, would it matter much at 1440P, probably help more at 4k res. But then again I don't have a 4k, I just picked up an LG 50" LA6200 last spring to replace my LG 42" so I'll be sticking with that for a while as well.

If you dont ocing too much your r9 290 and you want bf4 (afaik xfx was giving bf4 with their r9 card when you register them in their support)
Amazon will give you the refund in gift card/in store account money just for amazon
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HHIPM5Q?ie=UTF8&at=&force-full-site=1&ref_=aw_bottom_links
Xfx has improved their cooling since the hd 7900 and this would be more or less its thermal output

Dude, not to be rude here so please don't take it like that. But advising ANYONE to purchase an XFX product is irresponsible. Their "lifetime warranty" is useless. The will not honor it 99 times out of 100. Would you want a GPU with no customer support or chance of getting a replacement if the card dies?

which is the date of those neglect of warranty?bevause there from 2011 were good
http://www.overclock.net/t/1101905/xfx-rma-experiences

And if you look for xfx r9 290 double dissipation rma in google there are very few complaints about rma so they have got better cards also 70c for a 450w tdp card is quite good being xfx..

XFX is not an option, like I said earlier, I think I am going to go back to the green side for a while after looking into the 290 blackscreens there seems to be an awful lot of complaints about it, an EVGA 780 will get me by for a while.
