My WC build - need help for planning - Page 2

You can really put the HDD anywhere. You could prolly find some way to mount the hdd to the psu? some of that velcro people have mentioned before... the loop failing and water dripping would be a concern of mine, but other than the back, you dont have many options...

im not sure how much modding/ custom work you want to do, but what about a slot load dvd drive and put that and the hdd in the same 5.25" bay. Not sure if that is feasible, but might be a creative way to solve it...

Do you think I can install those fans on the bottom or there is no place?

That's the other option I have...

yeah i know, i have the 750d. what i meant was people in the Obsidian 750D Club have mounted the 3.5" HDD behind the motherboard tray, and still used the ssd mounts provided thumb.gif

So, I have no option but to remove that cage to put those 2 fans right? OK, I will find a way to solve it. Maybe I will cut a part of tray from an old PC and stick screw it on the disk drive...hopefully there will be a place between the drive bay and the front radiator. I will see what I can do.

I am still waiting for the price of that case to go a bit down. I have some of my WC parts but I am still missing half of my list. smile.gif

Have any of you had leaks with compression fittings? I see them as best and most trusted solution. I see people's loops failing for some reason, are due to premixes (usually pump fails) and rushing the get the build done.

What are you putting in the 5.25" bays? the diagram is small and hard to read. Reason I ask is it looks like your using a 2 bay fan controller. I know at least with the 1bay fan controller that I have, most of the bay is still empty. I can only imagine that with a 2 bay controller you will have more room, and could potentially fit a 3.5" to 5.25" adaptor to mount the hard drive in. worst case you mod the adaptor slightly with some new screw holes to better fit with the fan controller.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I have a small question about this. As you can see, I have one hard drive cage already removed because of the 60mm thick radiator on the front. I will remove the front plastic plate with "Corsair" logo and leave the fans open with dust filter in front. Do you think I can move the rad a bit up (shown in the guide with 140mm fans on front) so that I can mount 2 120mm fans on the bottom, below the 280mm rad. In that case I can use my rear fan for exhaust (right now on the picture it's for intake). However if I do that, then I might need to move the other cage behind the front radiator as well and I am not sure where am I going to put it. As you can see, I got my HDD and SSD in that 1 cage - there is no problem for me having the SSD on the back however, where would I screw that HDD since it's mechanical and it's easy to damage if I don't have it somewhere tight. Do you think I can mount it somewhere in the back like the SSD or should I keep that cage on top of the fan or maybe put only one fan below the front radiator? One thing to note - I want my case to have a positive air pressure if possible (more air to go in than out) so that there is less dust being attracted smile.gif

I'd not worry about the 140mm rad as it's not really needed with the other 2 thick ones.

Mount the SSD on the mobo tray, even mount the 3.5 HDD there as well even change to 1tb/1.5tb or 2tb laptop drives for smaller physical presence smile.gif

Change the direction of the top rad so they both get cool outside air. + pressure

^^^ do this!

I dont know why I didnt think of that! I actually did this in one of my builds. I got a 500GB 2.5" hdd for a backup drive and just mounted it to a SSD mount on the back of my mobo.

I was gonna put an WD caviar black 1TB HDD and Samsung 840 EVO 120GB. Fine, the SSD i put it on the back, but will the HDD fit you think? It's 3.5" so...Click on the image, it will show u a bigger image...
Also, yes the Asus Front Bay is 5.25" bays and my Disk drive is only 2.5" bay, so i got space for those 2 for sure.

And also, you told me to change the top rad from exhaust to intake? In that case, the rear fan will be exhaust and the two on the bottom will be exhaust too. What about the front 280mm (60mm thick) radiator? Should it be intake too?
And did you tell me to remove the rear rad? i think, let's just leave it there since it's on the way of the loop. I can even maybe put another rad on the bottom biggrin.gif LOL.

I tried to find the WD Black in 2.5" and 1 TB... doesnt exist.

Have you looked at this?

Price seems fairly reasonable and would solve your problem perfectly...

blinksmiley.gif OMG - wait is that SSD and a hard drive combined? Never seen something like that before....

Alright here is what - thanks for the help and that suggestion above. I think that's gonna be my last problem to solve and I guess that's gonna happen when I get my case. It's only one HDD so it's not a big deal.

Now one last thing for me to ask you for is LEDs. I know that red LEDs usually have problem with how shiny they are and it's not easy to find good ones, however I found some here and I wanna know if I should go ahead with them.

I just need LEDs for my CPU waterblock and maybe I will stick some on my GPU blocks and in front around the fans....

Guys have hidden their 3.5" drives behind the motherboard tray in the 750d with plenty of room.

Are you looking to do case lighting with strip leds at all?
