2400 MHz ram with 1600 MHz ones on Asus Rampage Extreme

Hello,

I bought new components as an upgrade for my 5 years old computer. I had rams in that computer which are 2x 2 GB and 1600 MHz 9-9-9-24, and I bought new rams which are 4x 4 GB and 2400 MHz CL10.

The new board I bought is Asus Rampage IV Extreme. So you see in that board that you have 2 quad channels for memory with two different colors (black and red).

So my question is: If I install the new 4 ram chips as a set for quad channel, will installing the two older rams in the other channel influence the performance in a way that they reduce the frequency to 1600 MHz for the other rams for compatibility, or reduce the performance in any way?

Of course, I could sell those older ram chips, but come on... is that 30 Euros? That's what I spend for a day in cinema... I prefer to have more room for memory instead wink.gif

Please advise.

Thank you.frequency

The DDR3-1600 memory will force the DDR3-2400 down to DDR3-1600 and that alone could cause some instability. It's not worth it. That's 16 GB of DDR3-2400. That's overkill as it is. Keep it and get rid of the old memory.
