Another "Help me find a laptop" thread.

Alright guys, it's about that time. The Dv6-6c53nr is running up on it's last limbs, right as Paypal increased my BillmeLater credit to $1510 USD. So, I am calling upon my actually knowledgeable brethren to help me find what I'm looking for.

As many other people have experienced, with the release of the MSI GS Stealth series laptops, many others are now ruined due to the thin & light form factor MSI has accomplished whilst squeezing in the mid-to-upper range GTX 8xxM GPUs into it. Problem I have, of course, is cost. The first GS70 with an 8 series is just slightly out of my range, so that's a problem. Of course, I'm also wanting to push out of 15.6" and move up to 17.3" or higher.

TL;DR, let's get choosy.

Params;
17.3" & GTX8xx GPU is a near-must
Thin & light is HIGHLY prefered
Budget: $1500 MAX, <$1300 is Ideal.

Location is California, US, no NCIX nearby (Frys is closest tech shop).

As of right now, best option is this;

Thanks in advance guys, hoping to have this settled before next week.

i never really understood thin and light. especially with the 17"ers. it will still be huge, and will be only marginally easier to lug about. You give up so much for a quarter to half an inch of thickness. The only real win is the typing ergonomics are better because the keyboard is closer to the desk, but they make angled systems that work just as well.

If you want to stay thin and light at 17.3, you'd need to add some cash to get a gs70: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152589

Otherwise you'd have to settle for a smaller screen size.

Thanks for the input guys. Do you think it'd be a better idea to stick with 15.6" instead of going to 17.3? I think bigger screen is nicer but only have experience carrying 15

If that's what you're looking for, I'd say grab the Sager NP7358.

Goes something like this:

For $1109 shipped, you get...

i7-4810MQ - $35 promo upgrade
8GB RAM - grab the 2x4GB option
GTX 860M - add the IC DIamond thermal paste option for this laptop
1TB 7200RPM HDD - only $20 extra
Also, has a spare mSATA slot AND a second full size HDD bay too. O_O

And if you want an OS, you can always add that onto this machine too. PowerNotebooks has a lot better customer service than XoticPC in my opinion. The latter of the two seemed to try and force it to a sale, whereas the former just waited and helped me along over the phone. Just my experience when looking.

It's what I'm snagging.

How about Acer Aspire S7 WQHD laptop it’s available for $1,379. Your mentioned specifications can better fit with it. There is an Intel’s 4th generation Core i5-4200U Haswell 2.6GHz processor and 3MB CACHE, Turbo Boost Technology, 8GB of DDR3L RAM and 128GB of Solid State Drive, Intel’s HD Graphics 4400, Windows 8 and much more. Hope you’ll find it thumb.gif

Yeah no aquafeb, that has 13.3", no dedicated GPU. Imglidinhere I've been lookin at that safer for a while too. It looks a little thick though for my tastes, but the price is almost unbeatable. I'm going to keep searching, but thanks for linking power notebooks, almost forgot about it.

I'm not sure you realize, but the G750 you first linked to is relatively thick [0.7"-2.0"] and 9.9lbs. That's why I linked to the MSI, though it is 0.2" thicker still, it weighs less at 8.6lbs.

That's the problem with screen-based previews. Really the only gaming laptop I have a base comparison to is my friend's GE60. I'm still searching and configuring though so keep the ideas flowing. Thanks for the ideas guys.
