The problem is G+ has a different set of rules than other stuff. The worst one is that you're required to use your real name. For example my YouTube is Mott555 which obviously isn't my real name, though it includes my last name. If I let my YouTube get tied to G+, I'm in violation of that rule and my G+ can get suspended. And Google doesn't suspend on a per-site basis, they suspend per-account. So if my G+ is suspended, I'd also lose my YouTube account, Gmail account, and anything else tied to it. I've just lived with not being able to comment on YouTube rather than risk a mass ban over a rule on a service I don't even use.
I also have another handle used specifically for gaming that is anonymous. I like the handle and don't want to replace it with my real name. That one also has a YouTube account and other stuff.

Luckily I could get to my friend a second throwaway email.
That was a dumb change and should be optional for those who want additional security. I haven't had an Xbox in years but I recently recovered my profile on a friend's Xbox 360. Because of the new Microsoft changes, I had to use the Xbox, my laptop, my cell phone (SMS), and two different email accounts just to get everything verified.Edited by mott555 - 4/25/14 at 7:04am
