Hello all,
Having a bit of a dilemma at the moment. Currently running a Phenom 1090T, ATX case.
Been getting interested recently into the smaller form factor systems, I figured I would go straight for ITX as some mATX cases (Aerocool DS Cube) are nice but too big.
Some cases my eyes are on smile.gif

  • CM Stacker 915R (long, hmmm, don't know)
  • CM Elite 130 (simple but sweet)
  • Antec ISK600 (simple)
  • Fractal Node 304 (very sleek!)

Poll says it all smile.gif I've got the GPU to back me up (HD 7870 / R9 280X) as I know they run anything at 1080P fine (tried it with an I7 3770).
The above cases can hold a Phanteks PH-TC14PE, reason for me choosing them.
So it is mainly "what case" and "what platform" I am struggling on.
Problem:
Current Z87 ITX boards are a WHACK, and I worked out it'll cost me more than my Z77-G43 + 3770 build last year.
Eyes on MSI Z87I ITX Gaming, but the board alone costs more than what I can get for a 4670/4670K.
Thanks!
Mike

Thanks for all the votes and help thumb.gif

Changing this to a build log... will throw final build here:

But for now...

I doubt z87 prices will drop soon, and I also doubt we will see anything matching the I5-4670k(in non hsa tasks) on fm2+, you would have to wait till late next year to see what architecture amd comes up with next if you really want an itx performer from amd. That said I used to game on an A10-6800k and a 7950, and the experience was surprisingly smooth, so I wouldnt consider that route entirely out of the question if you went with a 760k, but of course the i5 will perform leagues better thumb.gif

Ah thanks thumb.gif

Unfortunately I have tried out the Athlon 760K @ 4.6Ghz and although it performs amazingly for the price it suffers from games like ARMA and Battlefield @ 64 MP slots.

I do enjoy a bit of strategy games from time to time however.

Question: Also I completely forgot something, are there any ITX LGA 1155 Z77 boards out there? I mean I can get a I5-2500K for £100 used (slightly less than a new FX-8320 here) or an I7-2600K for £145 (same as FX-8350).

Would it be sensible to consider the Z77 chipset (again tongue.gif). I couldn't OC my 3770 before (non-K) however may be different this time round.

Case:Also another thing, are there any small mATX cases? Definitely looking at the whole "cube" thing. Basically I was considering the Antec ISK-600/FD Nod 304/CM Elite 130 so I am wondering if there is anything around that size mATX side of things? tongue.gif aka it wouldn't dawrf a monitor if it sat next to it like my Zalman Z11 does.

Ah, Corsair 250D wubsmiley.gif

This is going to be my ITX choice.

Board wise LGA1150:

Theres H87 HERE. But pricey and no OC?
Z87 Gigabyte or MSI?

LGA1155:
Gigabyte Z77
Asrock Z77

I won't be using the wifi. I need serial communications so I may have to go with a USB-RS232 for that tongue.gif

EDIT: Scrapping my Phanteks going to go with a cleaner build with some AIO from Corsair or something smile.gif

So, out of this lot what would everyone think be the wisest choice? smile.gif

MSI B85I / Asrock Z87E-ITX / MSI Z87I + £160 I5-4670K

OR

Asrock Z77E-ITX / Asrock B75M
/ Gigabyte B75N + £115 I5-3570K or £100 I5-2500K.

Either would be a solid option, but if you can go for the latest, I'd go for that.

The choice shall be smile.gif :

CPU: I5-4670K / Xeon 1230 V3 (Still unsure. OC goodies or as another member pointed out over at different forum HT for DX12
Board: MSI Z87 / MSI B85 (Z87 for I5-4670K (OC option), B85 for Xeon
Cooling: Corsair H60 (I'd look for a mild OC, 4.0Ghz maybe, otherwise it'll go nicely with the Xeon choice.
GFX: MSI GTX 760 (Twin Frost) (For silence, don't want some loud fans spoiling the show
PSU: Coolermaster VS Gold (Made by Enhance Electronics, no idea, but, 5 year warranty backs it up.)
Case: Corsair 250D
Fans: Aerocool 200mm LED Why not, LED in front, nice

Reusing my G.Skill RAM smile.gif 2133mhz CL11.

Bish bash bong. Yay nay?

Looks good to me biggrin.gif I'd go for the Xeon personally.
