[Discovery] Chinese Company 3D Prints 10 Houses In One Day - Page 3

The idea of stamping out these things for refugee housing is a terrific idea.

They're not going to be fancy, pay-off-your-30-year-mortgage-and-pass-on-to-your-kids houses, but when you need to keep out the rain they'll get the job done. The world absolutely needs these.

due to the economic down turn that’s the sort of place all people will be living in the future because their parents have to spend the equity on living costs due to a weak pension.

Totally agree.
I didn't see how much these cost but consider that the average Sheet Metal shelter used in Africa built by volunteers and donations each cost anywhere between $5k USD and $15k USD... for 3.5 walls and roof, out of metal. Metal that is terribly hot and horribly loud in the rain.

A super cheap alternative that can be massed produced would do wonders in the right areas.

More like country based manufacturing process bias. China does a lot of things fast, fast doesn't necessarily mean good.

I see two major uses for this technology, no, three......

1) Refugee housing in semi-permanent areas; natural disaster, civil unrest, whatever the cause we could print houses quickly to provide decent shelter.

2) Extra-terrestrial settling; This technology could be expanded upon to use better materials that can survive the environments found on the Moon and Mars.

3) With better materials and a refined process we could easily build small apartments that are really affordable.

Remember folks, everything has a starting point, the firearm at one point was a smooth bore pole and a hand shaped ball. Cars were steam driven wood burning monstrosities that were entirely impractical. Look how far both have come?

if the house was innovated with hydrolic pull out bed/couch/desk type things (Youtube video in the following link: http://blog.petflow.com/theres-something-hidden-behind-that-wall-you-will-never-guess-what-it-is-wow/ ) I would say 650 sq ft is perfectly acceptable for 2 people, possibly 3 if you innovated properly. Given the cost of the house itself I'd say this is a great starting point. I'd love to invest in said company because I see a potentially bright future for them.

Seems 3D printing has become a buzzword.

Those houses look to be the size of a small one or two garage so it's likely a publicity thing.

Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) is the big thing now with LEED certified suppliers. Unlike made-in-china concrete that doesn't pass building code, ICF is available now. If you don't understand what they are, essentially it's prefabricated reinforced concrete with insulation.

I lived in a room that was about 12'x12' for two years of my life with one other person. a bunk bed a desk that fit under it. and a wall locker in iraq. this is def an upgrade and with a little creativity you could def make this house a home.
