[Discovery] Chinese Company 3D Prints 10 Houses In One Day - Page 9

I would really like to see a finished product and I am also curious about the plumbing and wiring.

The concrete isn't sprayed,it looks like it is extruded.

I am referring to the concept of 3D printing, and how the refined version of it that 3D prints metal or plastic composites is used in real production - outside rapid prototyping. (at the text you've quoted at least).

Eventually we might reach this kind of refinement with concrete 3D printers, or perhaps 3D printers that can print concrete and tension reinforcing members in one go (perhaps in web configurations, far more efficient than circular rebar sections today)

Oh yeah definitely. We could use massive printers that do proper detailing at the molecular level (or roughly that level). I suspect though we are way behind for that.

The "benchmark" for 3D printing - tho probably not in my lifetime, but you never know - is 3D printing functioning higher organisms (ala 5th element) biggrin.gif

I think the structure is not extruded, but "3D printed" / sprayed in layers.

It is just done "vertically"., i.e. with the O> sectiion of the house laying flat on the "bed" of the "printer", so as you add material you are taking advantage of its compressive strength / consistency that should be much higher than tensional strength before it is set - thus minimizing the chances of it collapsing under its own weight.

So they build the section of the house "up", like a tube layer by layer - consistent with the "extrusion" traces you noted - and then "drop" it on its side, which is actually the cross-secton's "base" / the house's "floor".

The company Winsun has been very quite about several key elements of this tech. Only a few sites have pictures all coming from the same scamming 3ders.org site which is known for copying content. Anyway here is an interesting bunch of details about just what they are trying to do: http://3dprintboard.com/showthread.php?2655-3D-Printed-Concrete-Homes-In-China-From-WinSun&highlight=house

I think There is also a company in California trying to do the same basic thing, only difference is that it's printed at the actual locations instead of in a warehouse in pieces.

I wouldnt consider 3ksq ft too much. Just about right actually. My house is about 2400sq ft and it feels rather cramped tbh. A friend has a 5k or 6ksq ft house and even that doesnt strike me as all that large.

holy cow man, how many people you have living there to make it cramped? or is it just the way the house is designed?

we have ~2100sq ft and there are rooms we don't step foot in for weeks at a time, thats with 3 people...

we only see the live-in servants if we REALLY want to...

If I had live-in servants I wouldn't keep a professional relationship.

Same, 3 people.

Too much emphasis is being put on "people being spoiled and should learn to live with less". That philosophy is fundamentally flawed. We only live short lives here, that life shouldnt be made to live with less. We should live as comfortable and fulfilling lives as possible while at the same time contributing as much. But not at the cost of taking away comfort and happiness.

PS: live in servants with a 2100sq ft house? I'm going to assume thats a joke because 2100 is pretty small. Well its enough for your average living 3-4 person family. But certainly not enough for live in servants lol.

This. It should remain a choice to live frugally or to buy that bigger house. To want more out of life is as natural as breathing, and if someone is willing to work their a$$ off for it, all the better. As long as you don't put yourself in debt doing so.

Want, within sane boundaries.
