Hello,

Introduction:

I'm looking to replace my old 2009 Bloomfield/AMD 5850/Antec p193 with a quieter and smaller rig. My idea is to use EVGA Hadron Hydro case to build something that will be powerful and really eye candy. I was inspired by many other OCN members and builds across internet. Since I'm going water cooling and full size GPU into a really small case it will be crowed already so I'm thinking that less color is more. My approach is to have a black/white/anthracite theme with not too no unnecessary details.

My main challenge is the lack of working space. I live is a tiny apartment and I have to store things on a shelf every time i'm done modding (components back into their packaging, etc.). This is a big waste of time.

I've been changing my plans along the way. I've been editing the log to reflect the changes.

Components:

  • CPU i7-4770k
  • Mobo ASUS Z97I-PLUS
  • RAM G.SKILL Ripjawz X series 2*8Gb
  • SSD Samsung 840 Pro 500Gb
  • HDD Seagate 4tb Barracuda ST4000DM000

Cooling parts:

  • Cooling kit Hardon Hydro kit (I kept only the fittings and the Rad, the pump and res have been discarded)

  8. converting the PSU to modular Part 1 and Part 2
  9. Sleeving with Teleios
  10. Switching from Teleios to Paracord (more flexible for that build)
  11. Making a cable comb out of a dry cleaning hanger with Final result
  12. HDD custom enclosure
  13. LED holes in the GPU waterblock and waterblock assembly
  14. Custom GPU wiring
  15. Bare die delidding CPU
  16. Case fan moding and GPU LED wiring
  17. Early lightning test
  18. Acrylic tubing
  19. Final results !

Quick update on the components.

Not very interesting discussion about SSD speed and GPU pricing.

1) SSD:


I found out that Samsung 840 EVO 500GB is nearly equivalent to the Samsung 840 PRO 512GB is term of performance. It was highlighted by few people out there such as in this PCMag article (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2455429,00.asp).

Newegg has the initial Pro 256gb at $190 ($0.74 per Gb) vs the proposal Evo 500gb at $260 ($0.52 per Gb). It think that would be the sweet spot for my heavy use of Lightroom. Warranty is 3years ... so I don't care about TLC being more fragile than MLC.

I looked up into the Samsung website and find the datasheets (see below) that confirms all that.

I'm planning to switch my proposal EVGA GeForce GTX 770 Superclocked ACX (02G-P4-2774-KR) for the EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Superclocked ACX (03G-P4-2784-KR).
Newegg is $369 vs $509 for nearly 25% more power. Considering that Maxwell won't enter mass production until a lot later this year it makes a more powerful card a little more valuable in regard of its future depreciation. I decided to switch after looking at my budget back in 2009 when I bought a HIS 5870 for $470 and it last me 5years. It's still a solid card for a lot of applications. I'm looking to replicate the power/pricing ratio decision pattern.

Few parts came in last night. LaserShip lost a package (Hydro Kit + RAM) from NewEgg. It's going to take a little time to have replacement on the claim I just placed. Nevertheless I was able to take away one RAM module from my actual RIG (was 3*2Go) so I could at least test it out while I'm waiting for replacement.

This week end I'm going to do a full assembly in Air mode before the water part gets in. I'll post some temperature results.

Just received the replacement from Newegg after the delivery company lost the first package.

This Hadron Hydro kit comes really well packaged



Good looking radiator


All the parts


Fittings for everything (even a spare GPU waterblock if needed)


Good looking CPU waterblock


This kit looks easy to setup and the parts are well finished, so far no complains.

Also came in the package the 2*8Gb RAM from Gskill (RAM G.SKILL Ripjawz X series 2*8Gb)
