Help finding a capable CPU cooler.

Thread Starter
Hello,
Having a tough time with the CPU cooler upgrade options for my fresh build.
Using a i7 4770k cpu, stock on the Sniper M5 mATX board, all in my InWin Dragon Slayer case.
I plan to OC the cpu down the road to about 4.5-4.6.
Considering AIR such as the !be quiet series CPU coolers along with Noctua, probably Dark Rock 3 from bequiet or Noctua NH-C12P.
As for liquid, only considering the Thermaltake Water 3.0 Performer.
Only looking to buy from !be quiet or Noctua on air.
I would like suggestions, not sure what would be the best option.

Thanks in advance

The Dark Rock seems like the best choice for air but it likely will hang over at least 1 memory slot. And which Water 3.0 are you looking at? Pro, Extreme, Family?

Using Samsung Miracle Memory ( Samsung Green ), very low profile ram, 8 GB.
This is the water cooler in question http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106218.

Hmm not to familiar with that one but from one of the comments a guy has a 4670k @4.6 with it. You might be able to pull it off. Keep in mind though that Haswell isnt as good an overclocker as Sandy or Ivy Bridge.

If I were to get the Water 3.0 Performer, which is currently top of the list, will I be able to mount it inside the InWin? this case does not seem to have any 120 mm fans, so I am not sure, here are details : http://www.inwin-style.com/en/goods.php?act=view&id=Dragon%20Slayer
Hope this isn't a silly question but my previous experience with water coolers is null.

You can mount a 120mm rad up top where the 140mm fan is. Your case will accept a 120mm or 140mm fan up top judging by the page you linked, so a 120mm radiator will work fine up there.

One thing to keep in mind is noise.
All-in-one liquid cooling is not quiet to begin with, and when you stick that tiny little single 120 rad on a hot CPU, the fan/fans will have to do a lot of work to keep up. That WILL mean noise. A lot of it.

If you want to keep noise at a tolerable level, go with either a 240 rad AIO or get a decent air cooler.

The Noctua NH-C12P you mentioned would not be a good choice. It is designed more for SFF than for high end desktop CPU's.

EDIT : Wrong cooler my bad..
I would personally still go with the Dark Rock 3 over any 120 AIO.

2c off the H75 here:

.. and quietly does it:

Here's a list of many of the top coolers and their sizes.
Several are new like the Cryorig R1 Ultimate and Universal off-center to the rear 18mm (38mm center of CPU to fron of radiator). Ultimate has 13mm thick front fan. Also the Silver Arrow IB-E (off-center 9.5mm for better PCI-E clearance; 67.8mm center of CPU to edge of cooler) and TRUE Spirit 140 Power (as good as NH-D14 and quieter).

*3* fins are at 3 different levels; 36.9mm, 44mm & 51mm
*4* fan clips add additional 3-5mm

Please let me know if you notice any errors or have data on other coolers I can add.
