[Build Log] Evo 2 8core

Hello peoples,

Build log is going to involve stripping current rig down, making a temporary test bench & constructing my Acrylic/ Aluminium Scratch build case with all the next gen of 8 core/ram & Motherboard. Will be going for the ROG based board with welded Chrome tube and elbows to feed watercooled setup. As for gpu I'll probably use my current set of GTX 780 Hydro-blocks as they continue to ace pretty well every game I play, but... I'll see when the 8xx is released.

- Scratch build may not happen as quickly as projected, as i've learnt they are a PITA.. Always something re- arranging or ajusting.
Eventually i'll get there!!

Any how moving on, I finished current rig about 8 months ago (kinda hurt to strip down) but It's all part of the fun.
I did a build log on OCN but it never really kicked off, probably as it was finished before I logged it.. Hopefully a lil better this time.

Parts List:
  • Z87 Sabretooth-current mobo, will be replaced with new series.
  • 4670k-replaced with 8 core
  • 2 gtx 780 hydroblocks
  • Corsair 860i- mdpc Custom sleaved
  • 16gb Ram Corsair Dominator 1866
  • Assortment of Aphacool, koolance,BP and primochill watercooling stuffs

TT1000

So that was her in the old house. Unfortunately my missus isn't very keen on watercooled gaming computers?? (I think something must be wrong with her) unlike some lucky folks here on OCN she doesn't want me to build her a PC. rolleyes.gif So until the boy grows a little older i'll have to re-use/ sell unused stuff.
As mentioned the strip down and the temp test bench - actually grown very fond of test bench, but, as I have spent endless hours on PICTURING the scratch build I must stay focussed.. I'll also post a pic of sketchup8 later on scratch design and tube outlay.

Scary stuff empting old girl weirdsmiley.gif

And back to air cool- Really wish I had of got 2 reference 780, not 1. Cant find reference cooler anywhere, please let me know if anyone has connections.

Back with small scratch updates soon. thanks for reading biggrin.gif

Back again.
Just a few screen shots of sketchup8 designs and layout, not the best draughts or to scale but very good for getting the scheme/design a bit clearer..

Image 1: Scratch Layout with 480 & 280 rads, exterior Koolance rad shrouds for more space. pics later

Image 2: Hopefull rough MOBO tube and block layout.

Image 3: From rear

Image 4: Just case- shouldn't of added acrylic panels to all draughts, I'll edit one later so it's frame's a bit more visible.

Image 5: Found out @ REECE (plumbing supplies) that the male end of primochill G1/4'' fitting fits nicely into 6mm Threaded fittings.
Will be very handy when things start getting tight behind Acrylic/MOBO..

Back this evening with Fram Pics. cheers

Feel a bit like I'm writing journal entries for myself to read over at the minute lol... All good, maybe someone's interested in having a crack at a scratch build and might get a few ideas somewhere along the line. This is my first scratch build and could end up a disaster but I'm going to find out the hard way!!

Back to build- The frame is all standard hardware store aluminium at 19mm square and 20mm right angle, bit strange that they are different sizes but it seems to be manageable.
btw I dont have any fancy cutting tools to get all cuts flush, but a few mishaps and it ended up being fairly level. Basic hacksaw, grinder and gods gift the dremel.

Used timber countersink to get rivets flush so acrylic panels sit flat

2- Actually took me a while to work out why I couldnt get the bloody thing level, would've helped if the workbench/ Table was level rolleyes.gif

5- Will be painting or powdercoating frame eventually so not to stressed about scratchy look.. Probably last thing I do

9

10- Installing the coolermaster psu- even though it's sold

14- Notice the 3mm recessed alloy so the 3mm acrylic can sit nice and clean.

Try and get back on to put most recent pics with acrylic.
Thanks

^ ^ -Bit of a shame, not many on OCN..feels better reading logs here.

Frame done. Acrylic was cut at a local plastic shop. Cleaner and less expensive then my first attempt. If you plan on cutting yourself, only use jigsaw with fine blade.

Exterior walls and Mobo tray are 4.5mm. 3mm for bottom and side sheet

I was going to cut all plexi joins on a 45. LEDs would look good but would've had to route them myself so just going to put matte black vinyl over

Left plenty of space for brass and copper fittings behind motherboard. Eventually be a jungle

I'll be lacking on updates for a bit... Bought a house with an empty shed thumbsupsmiley.png
Try to make it swift. thanks
