all night boredom equals re-purposing old hardware

So tonight I was up with nothing else worthwhile to do so I said... Hmmm... I wonder if chilling my water loop would give me any more overclock headroom. It turns out that pulling my water temp down by about 10C really dropped all my temps. A lot. I got my 4770k to validate 5.0Ghz http://valid.canardpc.com/r9iixx and was able to complete 3dMark runs at 4.9ghz for the first time ever. I've never gotten a run to finish above 4.5. My 780ti's on the other hand wouldn't click any higher than non chilled water, but man the temps were awesome. Running a full loop of 3dMark and GPU temps only hitting 24C lol... That's nice. It also showed me my GPU clocks are solely limited by voltage, so it's hard mod or keep it as is or move to classified. Tough choice. Not sure why I have to push the limits of my stuff all the time but it is what it is.

I hooked up a 1/10 HP chiller from an aquarium to my serial loop and turned off all my rad fans. I put towels over the panels to keep air from flowing through the radiators I couldn't disconnect.

Normal water temp after load testing 4.5ghz SLI 780ti 1260/8000 1.212v = 34.5C
Chilled loop after load testing 4.9ghz same card clocks = 14.7C

That's amazing. Get the loop cold, about 10 below ambient, no condensation. And it stays within 4C or so on benchmarking. Curious what a couple hours of Aida or bf4 would do to delta.

At any rate it gave me something to do. I didn't think this chiller would dissipate this much wattage, but it is a simple setup and outperforms my phobya 1080 and 2 240's ... Experiments can be fun!

And I also got up to #34 on the 3dMark hall of fame for firestorm extreme 2x SLI... Not sure how much better this thing can do.

A quick snapshot of my bay reservoir water outlet temp reading at 12.9C just before a run... This is fun...

Nice temps, I've looked at chillers a few times. I'll go look again, I'd be happy with 20C res temps.

Still would like a product from Krow or someone so that it never falls below dew point, just to be safe. tongue.gif

Nice scores!

I'm sure I'll be disassembling this build soon but I had to try it out. I bet my power company loves me. Up to 10920 score on extreme... The elusive 11k is hard without classifieds

The elusive 10k for performance for me. frown.gif

If you had done this just a couple months ago, then you could have made back all the money yous spent. I would have bought it from you when you were done. tongue.gif
