[Build Log] AlderonnX's Project Conversion Wild Inverted Yellow Rosewill.

OK, guys this is build log for a Budget build I'm doing with my 18 year old brother. He is doing the paint and artwork and allot of the modding as well.

The idea behind this started with a neighbor donating a Asus P5k Deluxe Motherboard (Socket 775) since he had heard my Mom and younger siblings only had a Laptop at the house. I had the ram and a dual core socket 775 laying around the workbench and a basically brand new Rosewill Hive 650 PSU already. I dug thou my pile of cases and found a unwilling victim to mod to within a inch of its life.

Below is a list of parts. I list what I paid and a link to the specs. Also the source. I have about $245 in this total.

Parts List.

Case: $0 Rosewill R103A http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147010 (yardsale)
MoBo: $0 Asus P5k Deluxe Wifi http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131182
CPU: $30 Intel Q6700 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115027(OCN)
Ram: $0 Samsung DDR2 1GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147147 (Had)
GPU: $60 Gigabyte Radeon HD 6850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125348
SSD: $30 Muskin Callisto 60GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226151 (OCN)
HDD: $30 Seagate 500GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148767(OCN)
PSU: $60 Rosewill Hive 650 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182132 (NE)

Wish List

I would like to find a set of 4X2GB DDR2 800 sticks.
Still need to buy the plexiglass for the window as well.
I also need to buy/Find/Make a I/O sheild for this board.
I am thinking about a Shroud on the top to cover the wires?

Tore down the case. The front is junk, Its missing half its tabs and half the 5.25 slot covers.

Made the decision to stand it on its head.

Added Case feet to the case and removed the factory plastic ones

Used a old 6 disk DVD changer as a metal donor.

That looks better already

I kept the 5.25 cage even thou its pointing the wrong way. We fit a chunk of the dvd player in as a ledge for the HDD to sit on.

I bent the tabs down in back and marked where the drive would sit. You can also see the Brackets we made for the front feet.

Couple shots of the window art and midplate.

Mounted the psu to get measurements.

Cut the fan hole and the DVD drive slot out.

Even thou I'm hiding all the wires under the PSU with wire loom I did sleeve a 24 pin and a 6 pin PCI-E cable.

I took the case outside and gave it a 3rd coat of paint

The midplate will have to be sanded and redone. A spider and tiny moth jumped to there deaths in my still fresh paint.

Assembly time! After 24 hours outdoor drying time in the hot sun I brought it back inside.

Covered the 8 and 24 pin wires with 3/4 inch Wire Loom

Then Installed the psu and the Fan a 140mm Xigmatek.

Covered the switch wires even thou they will never be seen once its built.

Installed both dvd drive and toggle switches
http://BJNs2OM.jpg

I let the dvd drive hang out so it functions as its own bezel.

Installed the motherboard and GPU as well as the pci-e slot covers.

Couple of shots with the sleeved wires hanging on and the sides back on.

Got a update for tonight... I got the Q6700 Quad installed and swapped the ugly stock Asus branded aluminum brick with a Arctic Cooling
Freezer 7 Pro. (old School Cooler) I think it fits the mod pretty well.

These little clips are harder to install with a tower heat sink wobbling around.

Then I installed the hard drive cage (took from a Corsair Case I used at work)

H9adFDe.jpg

I'm starting to have rather alot of wires under here.

I also wired up and tested the 3 LED wires and the Switch. I used a terminal block to wire them all in and I have PLENTY of room for
More if I ever need them. From now on I'll but 3-5 pin blocks not 8 pin.

The block has a plastic cover that should keep it all safe under the metal midplate. I just have the block stuck to the top of the dvd drive.

The lights look pretty cool turned on with 12 wolt going to them.

I also took a picture of the wire loom covered wires coming down behind the 140mm fan. Its a different look.

Thats about all for now. I have to fit the midplate and make a power switch wire and re install the motherboard and GPU and put the window
on the side panel and this budget mod will be about wrapped up.
