I just downloaded AIDA64, what a difference in temps if I'm stressing-testing it correctly, I've never used AIDA64...

Also I assume you're using a manual voltage for the CPU voltage correct? I used to have the same motherboard and CPU as you, but I changed from a 4690K to a 4790K, but anyway the overclocking is the same.

I've set the voltage on manual-

Quote:
That is really alot of heat for 1.21V, my 4790K at 1.3V goes to 88C max on aida64 / prime95 latest. This is with a Noctua NH-D14.

This may be a issue with improperly done CPU cooler. Check if there is sufficient thermal paste between the heatsink and CPU, e.g amount of thermal paste such as between rice grain size and small pea size

Also check if the heatsink is mounted on tightly enough, it shouldn't wiggle for example.

As long as the temps stay the way they are now, I'll leave it alone, but if they get higher, I will re-TIM the cpu and check that it's tight enough-

Quote:
I used to get 90C easily on stress testing on my 4690K 1.25v overclocking because of my failing thermaltake water 2.0 240 rad. The pump was failing on that cooler.

The 30-40°C on idle seems normal, but that high temperature during stress test, I think is not normal.

I was concerned my cooler was N/G, but it looks like it's doing it's job-

Below is jpg of temps using AIDA64 Stability Test biggrin.gif

And thanks!!

Those temperatures look perfect on AIDA64. Not sure why Prime95 would be giving you 20°C higher temperatures at manual CPU voltage. IMO AIDA64 is more reliable than Prime95 for stress testing haswell CPU's. Prime95 has been found somewhat not reliable to be used for stability testing on haswell CPU's.

Dunno about "better" but you can check this out if you wish to have the latest ones.

You do not have your sig-rig completed so I cannot see your components and your operating system. IF you have Windows 8.1 64bit then you should download and install the drivers for this operating system, from the link I gave you. When it comes to the LAN (Ethernet) Controller, I always (always!) install just the driver itself, and never (ever) any suite provided. I do this by downloading the package, unzip it and then direct Windows to install just the driver.

In addition, I never install Intel Rapid Storage Technlogy (RST) Drivers or Intel Smart Connect Technology Drivers. Instead I visit Fernando's site and I get the "best" Intel AHCI/RAID drivers. Read a bit the page and select what suites you. The driver is installed as above, by directing Windows to install it.

Finally, independently from what you will hear, the best practice is to keep an installation order when you perform a clean Windows installation - always on an unallocated SSD. Here is mine:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
1) Microsoft HotFix
2) Intel INF
3) Intel ME
4) Intel AHCI driver
5) Intel USB driver
6) LAN Driver
7) NVIDIA Driver (or GPU driver)
8) Windows + All Updates
9) Other drivers

Save the drivers on your USB stick and proceed. Have a spare PS/2 keyboard around, as well, you might initially need it.

Good Luck. thumb.gif

Thanks for the tips LostParticle, I'll assume the installation order also applies to HDD's.

@masteratarms You'll be better off installing the driver only, not the software as well for the network driver. That program has given me nothing but issues.

e.g: increased ping, bad transfter speeds, such as horribly fluctuating download / upload speed.
