I am having a hard time deciding on what to do at the moment. i built my system last year with intentions to step up to a 770 when they came out (I had a 660ti). I ended up losing my job and had to cancel my step up. So a week ago I was deciding to finally get a 770, so I picked up a 770 SC ACX. But now EVGA has me thinking I should Step up to the 780 SC 6gb. I will only ever be gaming on 1 monitor, and I still have to get an SSD for my system to be complete. I could do both but the ssd would have to wait a couple of weeks. For an extra $210 is it worthwhile to just get the 780 for single monitor gaming?
I'd get a 3gb 780 instead of 6gb for a single screen. Only exception would be if you are on 1440/1600p and don't plan to upgrade the GPU for a few years. Then 6gb might be a bit more practical.
Im using a 24 inch 1080p monitor. Im just looking at the 6gb because its not too much more then the 3gb. And because the 780ti is still out of my price range.
If you are planning to overclock your probably be better with 3gb. The 6gb will put more stress on the memory controller which could result in a lower OC.
I think you'll definitely be happy for a long time with 3gb on 1080p.
