I don't even know where to start......

1) yesterday I completed the leak test with all the loop and hardware inside of the case. No leaks. So I decided to turn on the computer and I started to check temperatures and stuff like that. I was getting great temps. 28C idle on the CPU (36C under Prime95 stock settings) and 21C idle on both my Titans (39C under Metro Redux stock settings). 20C ambient temperature. Completely silent machine (no vibrations or stuff like that), so I decided to let the pc on the entire night (I was downloading AC:Unity and FarCry 4 from Uplay). During the night it started raining and long story short a lightning hit my home. The pc went off but I tought it was becasue of a power loss. I tried to turn it back on and no luck. Then I noticed that no LEDs were on on my motherboard. And also a burning smell from my Silverstone PSU. I swapped it out with my old Corsair AX850 and the pc went on. Unfortunately no sata ports are working on my MIVE-Z. LAN port is not working. Also the motherboard only read 8GB out of the 16GB installed (don't know if half my ram is dead or half of the memory slots are dead). Also both my Titans are dead. If I put my hdmi cable on the first card I get "no signal" from my monitor and if I plug it in the second card I get lots and lots of artifacts on screen both in bios and in Windows. Also my SSD is gone.

- As if all of the above was not enough, the same night a bunch of thieves broke in our garage and stole my mom and dad bikes and also both of my case left (windowed) and right covers that I decided to leave in the garage since I wanted the case open to have more room to work with.

............... I still can't believe it...... I just have right now sitting on my desk over 2k Euros worth of dead gpus and an incomplete custom case which costed me a huge (and believe me I mean HUGE) amount of money that I can't close because I don't have the doors........

I don't even know how to say I'm sorry. I thought it was bad when my VII Gene fried but this is a trillion times worse. Go and make a post on r/pcmasterrace and start a kickstarter. Another dude whose computer got wrecked by lightning had luck doing that. My condolences to your dead computer. I will definetly donate a harddrive if your died.

That is extremely unlucky...don't know what else to say..frown.gif

Maybe RMA a couple of things , even though I'm not sure if it'll worth, but it's worth a try!

Thanks man. Yeah it sucks especially when you put so much effort and time in a project like this.

Thanks mAs81. Yeah all of this just in one night. I still can't belive it. I know the thieves that stole my case covers are the same that a couple of days ago stole a bunch of copper wires from a sport center near where I live.

i don't think RMA is going to work this time. I'll try to see what can I do but I am pretty sure that this kind of stuff is not covered sadly.

Oh my god... I was so happy for you.. Everyone was.. I can't believe this.. How many mirrors did you break for this to happen :'( I am so sorry about what happened. Did you have overcurrent protection on your motherboard enabled? It's in the monitoring section of ROG motherboards.

Are you going to have to remake the side panels?

We are all here for you, and I say this on behalf of OCN.

Hi Reaper, thanks for the kind words.

Right now I am taking the build apart. I started to drain the loop a couple of minutes ago so I can't say if I had that option enabled or not. Everything was stock settings and the bios was also at stock settings so if that option is there with stock bios settings it should be on.

The thing is that all the drawings and 3D models and renders with all the measures were on my ssd. My ssd is dead so I don't think I will be able to recover the drawings to make the sìde panels again.

Right now I am surfing the web jumping from a shop to another. I am thinking to build a Z97 system with the following components:

i7 4790K
ASUS Maximus VII Formula
16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866MHz
512GB Samsung 850 Pro
2x ASUS GTX 980 in SLi
1200W Evga Supernova PSU

For the moment I am gonna leave it Air cooled and in a couple of months switch to WC in a CASELABS TH10A case.

I was thinking x99 platform but the DDR4 price is crazy high and I mostly use my pc for gaming and photo editing so I can't justify the amount of money for that platform.

Building another custom case is out of the question atm since the money involved and the effort / time to think it and build it is enormous.

Thing is I need a pc asap since I need it for my job too. But I still am Not to sure about the components because I've heard that nVidia and also Amd are planning to release new gpus soon so I don't want to buy something already old...

Are you sure it's just not the SATA slots that aren't dead? Do you have a laptop anywhere at all that you can slide the SSD in? I had my Evo in my laptop a few days ago, so it should work. I hate to see such a piece of art left behind..

EDIT: You must at least try to get an RMA, or even contact Silverstone for compensation. That powersupply should have had overcurrent/overvoltage protection BUILT IN to it, and if those were working properly it would have saved ALL of your components.

Yup. Hooked my ssd to my friend pc. Even in bios i can see his ssd (samsung 840), his mechanical disk (wd green) and nothing more. I should see on sata port 3 my crucial m4 but Nothing is showing. When booted into Windows i only see his SSD and HDD,

Also tested my Corsair vengeance stick. 2 works and 2 are dead.

....... Life sucks.

Hey everyone,

Assurance company is going to pay 1500,00 Euros to partially cover the damage caused by the lightning. This is going to cover part of the new hardware costs. Especially cpu, gpus and ssd. So i have to pay for motherboard and ram modules. Made the order yesterday night, parts are the following:

i7 4790K
ASUS Maximus VII Formula
Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133MHz 16GB
2x ASUS GTX 980
Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSD
EVGA Supernova 1200W Platinum

I'm going to open a new worklog and post some pictures of the new hardware. The next step is order the caselabs th10a and in the future I am going to think about WC loop.

Marco

EDIT: I don't know what I have to do in order to close this thread. If there's a mod to contact or if I have to change the title or stuff like that
