So now that games are finally starting to use more than 1-2 cores is it worth owning a 6 core or 8 core pc

Thread Starter
So I've owned many pc's in the past, 980X, 2500K, 2700K, 3770K, 3960X, 4930K, 4820K, FX8350 and so on.
I only ever really game on my pc, every now and again doing a little bit of design work but nothing to intense, so i was thinking is it worth getting a 3930K now over say something like a 4790K, seeing as games will now finally start making use of more cores/threads...Isn't it better buying a 2nd hand 3930K for less than a 4790K?

I am facing this conundrum, not quite sure what to do...at the moment I am running a 4770K, and its great but I can't help but think I would be better off with a 3930K, especially considering that the 3930K will cost me a lot less than what I can get for my 4770K and it'll be more "future" proof?

What do you guys think?

Seems like someone has been hit with the upgrade bug. From what I see your present CPU is more than enough for games and video editing, etc. In games I don't think you would see much of an increase in performance, if you do, it would be marginal gains.

Just in the future there will be a difference..so a 3930k would be an investment for 3-5years deppending if intel continues with the trend of 4 cores for mainstream plataforms

Intel 6-Core 3930K will be better then any current and upcoming 4-Cores they have. The difference in IPC is too small. Gaming still not too focused in 6-Cores. Once 6-Core becomes mainstream we might see a change.
