I'd say that's pretty good for a refresh, considering AMD hasn't done anything exciting in the midrange-high end segment for quite a while now.
Lists as 3.6/4.0. Seen no listing for 4.0/4.4 yet.

3.6/4.0 is 4790 (non K). The 4790K is 4.0/4.4. It is not out yet and is supposed to release in June.

Let's get something straight before posting random thoughts. The 4.4Ghz info is a rumor in the speculation forum. It is based on this forum post from china http://www.coolaler.com/showthread.php/315237

If they fixed the thermal interface problem then this could be most exciting chip released in last couple years.

Still not 'most exciting in two years'. Horray. I didn't lose my warranty, most excited in 2 years.

Any news on the unlocked Pentium?

You don't, Intel will take the delidded CPU back and replace it if it fails/dies as long as you have the original IHS with it, the store where you bought it won't replace the CPU though. I know a guy who got two of his i5-3570Ks replaced after openly admitting to Intel customer service that they are delidded and sending those said delidded CPUs to them.

Only physically damaging the unit (like cracking the die, damaging IVRs, chipping the PCB, etc), lapping the IHS (removes identification numbers), installing it incorrectly (which would physically damage it, and you need to be a moron to do it) and admitting you were overclocking (if you're dumb enough to admit it) would actually void the warranty. Otherwise, you're good with Intel, but if you take a delidded CPU to the store where you bought it they will just tell you to piss off.

So yeah, ask for RMA on delidded units from Intel directly, not from the local/online store. smile.gif

If it's not better than a delidded 4770k then they failed in my opinion. It's already reliably possible to delid it so it helps for nothing a regular user of overclock.net. They could just send delidding equipment to all their users for free.
