GTX 670, VRM cooling problem with ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme IV?

Thread Starter
This is the MSI GTX 670 I have: http://uk.msi.com/product/vga/N670GTXPM2D2GD5OC.html
After overclocking and multiple attempts to keep temps and noise down over the past six months or so I've given up on the stock cooler and ordered this: http://www.arctic.ac/eu_en/products/cooling/vga/accelero-xtreme-iv.html
The ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme IV; it should be turning up tomorrow and I can't wait, it looks like an absolute monster and I'll have to move the card down from the top PCIE x16 slot to the PCIE x8 slot below it just to fit it in due to the size of the CPU cooler.

Here's how things are now:

On the left side here you can see the VRMs:

And here you can see the size of the VRM heatsink:

As you can see from this picture, the fan pulls in the air, blows through the GPU cooler, through the VRM cooler, then out the back of the card:

Here's the problem: I'm pretty certain the VRM cooler is going to be too tall and will have to be removed to fit the ARCTIC cooler. Some of their coolers come with small heatsinks for the VRMs and VRAM but this one doesn't, the replacement for the VRM heatsink will be the passive heatsink mounted as a backplate on the other side of the card:

So, should I be worried and should I be looking for a better method of cooling the VRMs, maybe even the VRAM too?

I'm grateful for any and all advice, thoughts and opinions you may have; thanks for your time! biggrin.gif

The airflow from the back fan will be plenty to cool the VRM's. Just don't plan on pumping 1.4V+ into your gpu. (Stock is ~1.15v)

That's what I'm hoping, but I can only assume that if a heatsink wasn't really needed they'd save money and there wouldn't be a heatsink.

there should be no problem as long as your vram has a fan blowing on them thumb.gif

Well, that went worse than expected. The card cuts leaves me with a black screen randomly after a little while of being in windows, any ideas? I'm really too depressed and exhausted for this sort of crap in my life atm.

mabye return the arctic cooler and try the red mod on to your gpu where you mod an aio liquid cooler onto your gpu

Well, I sorted the issue; I snapped the fins off the VRM heatsink, put it on and it solved the problem completely.
