But yea, I am also one of the few who would spend an unreasonable amount of money for a super console. Imagine what certain devs (like Naughty Dog or Quantic Dream) could do with an FX (or higher clocked 8+ core jaguar) CPU + R9 290 for ~$800-1000.

Air-force did something similar with PS3s for computational power.

Oh yeah. Condor was a legit super computer consisting of something like 2500 clustered PS3 at its peek. It ranked among the 40 fastest supercomputers of its time. Pretty neat. Sony of course milked that PR like hell. "The PS3 is like having a super computer in your living room " tongue.gif

To bad they started having trouble getting their hands on replacement fat PS3's for the failed ones (only the original had the option to run linux). I wonder if its still operational thinking.gif

Granted they're new and use lower end tech, there's no reason for them to not be pushing 1080p and or 60fps in most games. It's 2014, it's time for consoles to get with the times.

Time for developers* to get with the times. Mostly PC devs but that is another rant for another day.
The consoles can do what gamers expect them to do with ease. There is no reason for developers to be this lazy unless they have to learn the hardware which seems to be the case.
Also sorry you prefer limiting yourself. Everyone has preferences I guess.

Sure it is. 6x more powerful than previous. Photo-realism going to become a reality. This is an important generation in gaming. Especially when there is no PC developer pushing this stuff.

one thing those new consoles brought is " the age of 64-bit "

for PC gamers that means their high end GPUs ( 780Ti sli / 290x CF ) will cry from games in 2016

unlike recent 32-bit games that 680SLi can destroy easily

I don't quote delusional trolls but I will address what someone brought up.
Yes I know there is no photo-realism coming from the Wii U, PS3 and Xbox 360. However the PS4 I see happening considering it can play games in 1080p 60FPS (especially PCars) with ease. Does this mean developers will tap into the power? No. But it can do it.
If the PS3 can do Gran Turismo 6 the PS4 can do a maxed out PCars while having performance to give.
As for these people claiming they do not need to learn the hardware. How long has the PS4 been out? 7 months? Okay, if you were given a hybrid kit car with no reassembled parts to put together with no instruction manual how long do you think it would take you to learn how to put it together and drive it safely?
The PS4 is something new. Saying stupid things like that proves you know nothing about technology on a technology forum.
There is a reason why applications work better on closed platforms. Why? Because developers of the software learn the hardware and learn to optimize it. You cannot do that on an open platform like the PC.
The Jaguar CPU might as well be an FX 8320. And the GPU a 7870. Why? Because there is less performance loss when the hardware across all of the systems is the same.

Hopefully the game is good. Just preordered on PC for €32. €69.99 on PSN. Madness.

Genuine question - why preorder games anymore? It used to be that you get it earlier by post, now it's usually a desktop background and a different character skin. This isn't your fault of course, I just think preordering is damaging gaming, they don't need to prove themselves worthy anymore, they just need to nail the marketing.

Agreed. You just gave them money for a product that you have not tested yet. Seems crazy to me.

2TFlops is more than enough to play games that the human eye will see as photo-realistic.

If 1.84tflops can render photo-realistic images at native resolution and 60fps, what the bloody hell are we doing with sli 780ti@1300mhz? (~15tflops)
