EVGA Z97 Stinger Core 3D vs ASUS Maximus VI Impact

EVGA Price: $199.99
ASUS Price: $219.49

Does anyone have any insight on which one would be best for use with a 4770k and a GTX780?
I'm going to be putting this in my NCASE and am just wondering if the EVGA is worth it?

Honestly, it will be a 6 of one half dozen of the other. They are both fine boards. We reviewed the EVGA on our website (LMK if you want a link - not sure if I can post it). But yeah, the cheaper of the two as both with do what you want just fine. smile.gif

I would honestly be looking at the AsRock Z97E-ITX/ac. It's got 60A chokes, audio has Nichicon capacitors paired with a TI NE5532 opamp, 4 SATA ports AND m.2 slot AND SATA Express connectivity, Gigabit LAN and Wireless AC/Bluetooth capability. So it's a good bit less expensive with more features and arguably better quality than those two boards shown.

Between those two boards listed I would pick the Asus. In my opinion, all EVGA boards made after X58 chipset are subpar (generally BIOS issues). I would sooner use any other brand except maybe ECS. The Asus board you listed is good but it's last gen chipset (meaning no support for Devil's Canyon but a Z97 board would, not really a determining factor if you plan on keeping 4770k for life of the computer), lacks M.2 and SATA Express, and essentially it's overpriced. The daughterboard (or riser or whatever you call it) for the audio and for the VRM section is basically a gimmick. The AsRock will provide a similar level audio and 360A to the CPU so heavy overclocking is doable without the need for a riser/daughterboard whatever you want to call it. There are also other Z97 mini ITX offerings from Gigabyte, MSI, and Asus that are worth checking out.

If thew new Z97 stinger is anything like the Z87...All I can say is AVOID it!!
Probably one of the crappiest motherboards I have owned, rubbish bios, sound issues that had me rma the board, month later new board decided to suffer from the same issues, sent in got it swapped and then sold the new 1 to a mate, only for the usb's to stop working within 3 weeks.. Evga know how to make graphics cards...but I think they are still miles behind the big boys ie Gigabyte, MSI, ASRock.

Interesting conversation fella's. I never even gave the ASRock a thought, but now that it has been brought to light I am for sure going to be throwing that one into the mix. One of my buddies has an ASRock but I've always been told it is the sub-standard to ASUS. But from what it seems, ASUS is becoming the sub-par one in this market.

Be careful with the marketing guys. They may advertise 60A chokes, but if the controller is analog, it's not going to be good at all. We have to start collecting exact makes of chips ASAP.

Doesn't this mean that it is Digital and not Analog?

I dont know about the z97 from asrock, but the z87, and the current amd chipset boards, my UEFI with my mouse (optical, laser, corded, cordless, usb, ps/2, tried every option) was very laggy and choppy, other than that flaw, has been fine as kind.

Also, if you plan on going really really sff, you might want to consider that small daughter board has got a chance in the way a bit(cabling, tubes, etc.) In my setup that small board would have not allowed me to install my cooler w/o some serious headache.

Side note, the pretty pcb, and heatsinks weren't on my list either, as this build is completely buried lol redface.gif

No. Because, for instance, Z87 Extreme3 had the Digi Power marketing but it had a hybrid analog controller which is considered low quality. An irony is many of the mid-end Gigabytes are also nerfed now.

That leaves me with choices like the UD5H (Gigabyte) for now (from what we know so far) which has extra features I don't really need.

I suspect it's not easily reversible since VRM is costlier than other features so, a stronger VRM with lower features may not drop price.
