[MB] Japan Plans to Have a Power Plant in Space in a Decade - Page 3

I have always thought that the future of clean energy lays in Magnetic and Electric interaction. Electromagnetism has always been the way to go in my mind, tho I haven't studied the subject a lot, Seems like a good and impossible idea to generate clean energy out of magnetic fields at the moment.

There's a sister article about this detailing the sophisticated AI that will be used to control the station and help focus the mirrors. It's codenamed GLaDOS and I hear it has a very advanced, if quirky, AI. thumb.gif
We're in good hands folks.

COAL, GAS, WIND, SOLAR, WATER

Safe alternatives. Way safer.

Honestly love when people talk crap on a project. They have so many people working on it - Your worries have probably been covered already. If you can think of a problem, I'm pretty sure the highly qualified engineers working on the project have thought of it too.

Not a "little bit" more thought, A engineer/designer set standards way beyond what was expected (what it should always be)

Didn't realize Fukushima and Chernobyl were safe.

Last time I checked they were HORRIBLE.

How could this possibly end well?

Maybe I'm just too paranoid after seeing that giant mirror in 007 that is able to slice through buildings and air crafts.

Even if the concentrated microwave beam is not that strong, it would still be able to instantly fry any living organism. If it's not strong enough to do that then there no point in having the mirrors in the first place.

In short, it's a stupid idea, and one can wreak havoc if it's hacked.

Hmm, maybe Japan is trying to make a WMD and using "science" as a cover. Too bad thy don't have much oil.... ph34r-smiley.gif

Chernobyl is safe. If anything the wildlife there is like nothing in this earth since the time we made it ours.

if you read the actual article (not the news) it's also talking about laser instead of problems. And they've addressed the problems. PLEASE, just in general, not aimed at you, people go read the sources news articles cite.

http://global.jaxa.jp/article/interview/vol53/p2_e.html

by the way, based on your logic if this can wreak havoc if its hacked...so can LITERALLY anything else.
