What's up with the Asus Z87 WS mobo?

Thread Starter

Newegg pulled the "pre-order". Asus has yet to include the WS in Z97 lineup online.  Problems? Massive interest? Aliens?

To me, it is the ONE model that hits the Enthusiast mark dead on. It originally came to light with a $400 price tag. Did they dig themselves a hole setting it at $289?

WHAT UP???

If i had to guess they are out of the z87s and are still waiting on there z97s. You might have to wait a week or two.

1) The MSRP was always around $280 for the Z97-WS never $400 from our side - if you saw them advertised higher that was not from us. Unless you are confusing them with the X79 models...

2) Boards will be in soon. No alien interests I am aware of. tongue.gif

Thanks Raja! I feel like an idiot. I am completely incapable of keeping the z87 z78 z97 z79 thing straight.

I think the Z97-WS looks like it is only missing the Kitchen Sink. Can't wait to get my hands on one!

Should be in soon. Ping me again if you dont see them by next week and I will push for a date.

I watched Linus's review on the Z97 WS motherboard and I must say he has me almost convinced to get one. I currently have an X58 with a 970 CPU running well at 4.3 GHz but I have difinatly outgrown the Sabretooth board and need faster speeds and options. Anyway back to my point, Linus says the Z97 WS has room for future options. What does that mean? Is there planned CPU upgrades like a 6 or 8 core CPUs ? Or just BIOS upgrades to make things run more efficient? I was really planning on going with the X99 platform but my patience is wearing out and there's not much news to go on about X99 to make me think the wait would be worth it. Can someone help me decide if I should purchase now or wait? Also, what CPU? I read that the 4770K is not a good overclocker.

I think what he was referring to was that this board has been supposedly tested with more expansion cards of various types, as well as the 4-way SLI or Crossfire (due to the 4 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16). This is the only board currently from Asus on the Z97 chipset which provides this functionality.

I have 3 EVGA GTX680s. I can only use two right now, this is one of the reasons I'm anxious to upgrade and why I was looking at the Z97 board. The other reasons I need to upgrade are my SSD speed sucks at approximately 230 reads and writes, and Ram memory only goes to 1600. That's not good enough for me. The bottleneck for my computing is the motherboard because I can't install better components on my board.
