Problem with PC, think its the graphics card - Page 3

Im not really sure why, but Sapphire appears to be specing a 750 watt PSU for this card.

Looking at your motherboard's support page found here:
http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970%20Extreme4/?cat=CPU

The FX8350 isn't supported, only original Bulldozer CPU's are supported. Perhaps a BIOS update would fix it. I'd imagine that board could do fine with the Piledriver processors, but its fully possible your board needs a BIOS update to work.
And how do i do that?

Well first things first, you need to rule out the GPU. Either by RMA'ing it or getting a super cheap replacement to test out with (or both). Get like a super cheap 8400GS or HD6450 or whatever the cheapest card with HDMI out is. Try that GPU out, to rule out the rest of your components. If that works, its the GPU, if it doesn't its the motherboard.

To be perfectly honest, it wouldn't hurt for you to have something super cheap that you can throw in for testing purposes. What happens when your GPU does die because of that PSU? You'll want something to use in the meantime while you RMA it again. tongue.gif

Here's an 8400GS for $27:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130592

Absolutely worst case scenario, you're ruling out the GPU as the problem and you'll have a spare card laying around for testing purposes for the future. Like I said, what would happen later on when / if your GPU ever does die again? You'd be out your rig. With this $27 8400GS, at least you could throw it in and still use your rig while the GPU is out.

Yes, that will work just fine.

Your PSU claims to be 700w, yes. However its more than likely a very bad 400w unit at best. It claims a MAX load of 600w on the 12v rail......MAX not continuous. Good power supplies rate off continuous power, and that's just the start. Your unit is made by Andyson which makes junk. A very good quality 500w unit would be 1000x better, safer, less likely to blow up, and less likely to kill your expensive hardware.

We worry about your PSU because it can and it WILL take everything out. It might not happen immediately, but it will happen.

The reason why the box claims 500w for single and 850w for crossfire is to accomodate crap units such as yours. A good quality 450w would be just fine honestly. I'm running an overclocked 280x (7970) with a power hungry Xeon off 450w in my HTPC.

Gotcha. I think your getting good advice on a cheap gpu to test it with. That is likely the problem, and a cheap gpu can still play dvds etc fairly well while you wait on your rma.

This is sound advice. I myself keep a GT240 around for just such a purpose. Not only would you be able to use it for testing purposes, in situations where there is no IGP (like my X79) it would allow you to use your system while you're waiting for RMA.
