I think the better way to have done it would have been like Borderlands. You have 3 friends join you and then you can do whatever. MMORPGs tend to get very dull very quick. When I have to kill 50 rabbits for 20 XP then I quit. This was a beginning quest in WoW and I quit the second I saw it.
I understand a good grind for EXP I've played FFXI, WoW and FFXIV. Although WoW felt more like a casual gamer style of gameplay. it's still has a small amount of grinding. ESO doesn't have the feeling of an MMORPG yet in my opinion. I played FFXI for more than 5 years, WoW for over a year and then FFXIV for over a year as well. I played both Alpha and Beta of FFXIV. Although FFXIV was very graphicly intensive and lacked grouping and many other things, the feeling that it was still a MMORPG was still there. ESO does feel like they need to do something almost most like fable did, where someone (or a few people) can join you in your quest-line. Make the monsters harder to kill, better loot drop and even introduce random events that you have to deal with to get a reward. I do not feel like ESO should be trying to do servers with so many people, it just ruins the Elder Scrolls feeling of a game. The only time I can understand have multiple people (more than 50) on a single server is for PVP, Raids or even trading establishments.

That brings up a good question. What about a Borderlands style 4 player co op and then allow PVP and raids in actual servers? I would buy that game for sure.

To be fair there's never been a quest in WoW that extreme. The highest those kill quest generally go is about 12 mobs, and they've always got multiple quests in the same area that will naturally give you credit for those "Kill X" quests. The only time you really have a single quest to kill X amount of mobs is right out of the gate, because it's showing you the ropes. MMOs aren't for everyone but heroic raiding is an incredibly rewarding experience if you have the time to invest for it.

I've never considered ESO and WoW competitors. WoW is a gear treadmill/raiding game, ESO is a lore/story game.

WoW is not going anywhere. It's population is staying steady at 7.5M subscriptions and it's currently the most boring part of the game... the 1 year long raid right before the next expansion. It'll likely go right back up to 10M when the expansion comes out. http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/3968-WoW-Down-to-7-6-Million-Subscribers

I don't think Bethesda ever planned on ESO coming close to those numbers. It doesn't need too, even 1M subscriptions is plenty.

I posted that top one LOL. And I don't remember the exact numbers but it got really dumb really quick after having to do that over and over.

While I agree the game is crap from a veteran MMOer POV, I really do not see the point in making a thread bashing the game. As you said, time will tell.thumb.gif

Literally the best explanation of this game is an average game without much going for it at this time.
It may get better, but it will take time.

Exactly. As far as MMORPGs go, it has a ton of potential but currently the game is a mess because of poorly implemented systems which make questing with others either pointless or outright detrimental.

Angry Joe stated it's like playing a single player game and you can see all these other people playing the same single player game as well.
Gopher said it's your typical MMORPG with some TES flavor, I don't even think he considers it a TES game (nor do I).

In terms of hype and potential I think we can all agree that TESO was a massive flop. (personally, I was hoping for Skyrim online).
In terms of numbers though...not sure, this isnt COD where you can base results off of a few weeks. Its a subscription MMORPG. Months of data needs to be collected before determining if this was a true economic flop or not.

It seems like a flop and I'd be glad if it was... teach Zenimax not to go down the awful MMO route ever again.
