[Various] Multi-university team to build quantum computer communication system

The University of Chicago's Institute for Molecular Engineering will lead a team of researchers from five universities in an ambitious five-year, $6.75 million project to create a new class of quantum devices that will allow communication among quantum computers.
Compared to binary computing, the use of quantum states of matter to communicate and store information could radically increase computing memory and speed and completely change how society thinks about information. Recent dramatic advances in this field have prompted researchers to begin considering quantum computing as a realistic possibility.

I vetted these sources the best I could. Each of these sources is foreign, hence why the name or Nanowerk is not Nanowork. It was hard to vet them but they all seem legitimate.

So it seems that Leonard, Sheldon, Raj, and Howard exist in real life and are set to start building a quantum computer. Now, I have no idea what I am talking about so let me try to sum it up the best I can: They are not going to use binary. This means that this would actually be an analog computer. The project is called QALGO. I looked for QALGO but not much comes up because it isn't American and it doesn't involve cats, Kardashians, or whatever Congress is fighting over this week (I think it's the cafeteria chicken. Some call it communist while others call it necessary). As for the computing, I do not think that we are going to see things like home computers or anything like that. I think they are researching non-binary computing that can eventually be put into things like nano-machines (Not Metal Gear Solid). Non-binary computing is not limited by things like silicon size limits, which means that they could possibly get CPU transistors (or whatever they will use) down to the picometer range.

EDIT: When I think about it, binary is not limited to silicon, so I had a lapse in intelligence there. But, if we can move past digital technology, then there is so much more we can do. However, you can use binary with other forms of technology. But still, this quantum computing will probably be so small that they will have to make up new stuff to control it.

[phys] The road to Quantum Computing would be a more fitting title, but that's just a suggestion.

When I first saw it I read, "Multi-universe team to build quantum computer communication system". Now THAT would be something smile.gif

It could happen. Depends on how many universes there are, if there are enough of them then odds are there will be enough working on the same computer at the same time to start communicating with it.

Heck of a way to discover the multi-verse. You get a functional, REAL quantum communication system up and working... and the first person you connect to, is YOU, in another universe smile.gif

um, excuse me, Brian and Stewie already traveled the multi-verse and they say it's dangerous GAWD!

Didn't I already call this when quantum computing first came up, saying they could have entangled communications 10,000 x the speed of light with no chance of intercepting.
