Better providers of what? Dial-up? DSL? Providers won't just pop-up if things go sour.

Well, if I had the answer I wouldn't be sitting here having a conversation with you would I?

Though the expansion of Google Fiber and other tech company's getting into the ISP business that are fed up with the status quo could be a feasible plan.

So I'm betting this is going to trick down to TWC at some point, since Comcrap bought them?

You Betcha... I'm just hoping Google rolls out Fiber here in NC before this garbage rolls in.

Only thing I get from TWC right now is 55mbps Internet. We haven't even gotten 100mbps here yet. Other alternatives being CenturyLink and AT&T. AT&T max speed on U-verse here is 35mbps with a 150gb data cap. You don't want to know what CenturyLink gives you.. might as well be dialup.

We're doomed, however way you look at it. thumb.gif

i wonder what my household uses... we don't have cable and there are probably 10 devices hooked up to use netflix/hulu/youtube, games, general surfing... other than that, our movie collection is on the NAS

Just to name a few things. Most countries (excluding third world ect) have free health care, better schools, better roads, and a overall better support of the citizens needs. its such a joke.

sigh.. we're being run by a government that controls corporations, not the other way around. your line of thinking is what enables people to believe that increasing government will somehow prevent this, when it will only make it worse.

Dear this is just what we need. I'm so tired of this poop from ISPs. There's a reason we pay for high speed internet access and they should be happy we choose their company to provide this service instead of someone else. But the problem stems from a lack of competition. Greedy fat cat execs at the few companies that offer decent speed internet lining their pockets with our data usage. Companies like Comcast are the worst and we need more companies that are willing to run fiber for a reasonable price so that we don't have these bandwidth problems; but that will cost money and then they won't have reasons to limit our bandwidth and charge us for going over data usage anymore so why would they ever want to do that?!

No, it's more like the corporations battling the government back and forth. You are right though, Increasing the government size would only make things worse. The more people in government the more people the corporations can manipulate. A smaller government would have less people, and anyone being influenced by the corporations could be singled out and removed easier.

I guess I'm now limited to where I can move since I will not buy a house if comcast is the only ISP.

That deal is no where near finalized. It most likely hood the fcc will not allow it to happen.

The fact is that we are already paying for SPEED caps. Why should we pay for data caps?

If an ISP offers 10Mbps speeds for "email and games", then offers a more expensive 20Mbps plan for "movies and streaming", then we are already paying for that ability. That being said, if I am paying $60 a month for a 25Mbps connection advertised as "for watching streaming movies" then the ISP has to expect that I will use 250Gb a month watching movies because thay are charging me for that ability. Now they want to not only charge me for the ability to watch streaming movies, but they want to put a cap on the AMOUNT movies I watch. Is this fair marketing?

Do you see my point?
