[dailytech] Comcast to Users: Stop Using the Internet so Much, We Will Cap You - Page 3

I don't mind a cap as long as it's a reasonable one. The old cap was somewhere between 250GB-350GB, I forget, but I never had a problem staying around or under it. Personally, as long as they don't lower the cap when they re-introduce it, I won't worry about it much.

Although I'm the only one in the household who really uses the internet, so I get that all to myself. I can understand why households with multiple power users would need more.

All this nonsense has got me wondering how much I actually use a month... so I installed a monitor and will check in daily and weekly to track myself. Might as well prepare so i know what to expect should I start being charged by usage. :\

I completely hate it, but until it changes i'll have to make do i'm sure.

350gb is huge compared to what my "local Cable Company who was just sold to another company half way across the country" wants to give people. The cap in my area is 100gb for all but the 100mb plan that one gives you 150 after that its $2 per gb and when i asked about paying for 2 plans since that would be cheaper than paying the overage they basically told me to screw off. I immediately went and found the other options in my area one that i switched to at home was DSL from century link i get 40/20 from them with no cap. Not only is the upload 10x faster than what the cable company was giving me but i went though 2tb in the first month with no questions. The other company i switched to at my small business was a small local wisp (Wireless ISP) they give me a 30/30 with bursts up to 100/100 even has a better ping that my DSL but they do impose a 1tb "cap" its a soft cap with them if im causing network issues due to high consumption they will work with me to get a faster dedicated connection.

its kinda funny seeing you muricans freak out about a 250gb cap when the big two isp's in canada have a 70-120gb cap on $65-$75 plans with speeds of 5-10up/25-30down.

Here is what I been getting from Cox communications:

Dear Desert Rat, (obvious edit)

Thank you for choosing Cox, we appreciate your business!

Your Cox High Speed Internet package includes a data plan of 250 Gigabytes. As of May 10, 2014, your household has used 259 Gigabytes of usage data in the current billing cycle. Some common factors affecting data usage include the number of Internet-connected devices in the household, Wi-Fi network security, the amount of streaming video watched, and the presence of viruses and spyware on one or more home computers.

We're happy you're getting so much value from your Cox High Speed Internet service. We have several Internet package options offering speed and data plans to meet a variety of needs. Based on your recent usage, your online experience would be improved by moving to a package featuring even faster download speeds and a larger data plan. To learn more about special offers for all Internet package levels and to find the one which best fits your needs, check out our current upgrade offers at: http://www.cox.com/chsiupgrade
Or please call us at 1-877-840-2777 for assistance in selecting the option that best fits your household's needs.

BTW, All we use at home is hulu and netflix. No cable tv for 4 years.

Cant wait for Google to arrive mad.gif

Mr. Cohen has dog poop for brains 5 years 500gigs bull probly 1-5tb everything is being linked to the internet already refrigerators are being hooked to internet to order food for you when you run out of food. We have smart houses that are fully internet ready to do anything you need from away from the house. We already have smart tvs to stream mutiple services thru the internet likely in 5 years homes will get alot of the new movies that hit cinemas in high def that will consume a ton of bandwith. Only thing Comcast and others throwing caps on the internet are doing is trying to limit what can be to slow down the internet because they don't want to spend the money to keep explanding and enhancing the equipment to handle more speeds and bandwith they just wanna pocket all that money and use bogus reasons to nikle and dime the customers. History tells that customers will only take so much befor they push back and cause change by either forcing comcast to change its policys or going out of business or being bought by someone that pro customers like google. While all the big isp have fcc bending over for them and letting them do anything they like they will do anything to screw the customer to get more money with putting less money into making a better product but they wont have the fcc in their pocket for ever that will change at some point and maybe then the internet wont be held back by them anymore.

Im sorry if some of this don't make sence or does not have perfect grammer im on alot of pain meds for my bad back and they kinda mess with my head sometimes.
