If they go by the current pay for what you use it will be cheaper, my current plan through comcast (105Mbps) with phone and tv over 200 channels is $150 a month, but they have a 300gig data cap. Its $5 for every 50 over. If they go by it like that it would only be $30 for 300 gigs. I highly doubt that would be the case but I can hope. Comcast and their customer service is a cancer on the United States

We've been pretty complacent recently. frown.gif

Anyway, most "average joes" still aren't heavy bandwidth users anyway, so the uproar wouldn't be that severe. Honestly I think charging you for the data you use is fair, though charging you for the size of your pipe at the same time isn't.

The only way I see bandwidth caps ever working is it only during peak hours. That would discourage torrents/massive downloads during peak hours when there actually is a lack of bandwidth.

On the other hand though, the ISP's should be using the money we pay them to upgrade the infrastructure so it can sustain our peak speeds

I don't think most have a problem with the charging for data but the low data caps they have currently and that upgrading to faster tier does not change that. You have the same cap at 15Mbps as you do at 105Mbps and thats 300gb. Although that is higher than others its still not enough for whole families who like to watch streams or netflix.

I've had a business-class Comcast internet account for about 5 years now, as a heavy user it is the only option for me. Internet only service costs me a decent chunk monthly but it gets me my T.V. shows and I use Skype for Voip. I can't control what other ppl in my house download but no one has ever received a copyright notice and I have no cap on my service. Back when I was a solo user, my best day I had 250 GB usage in 24 hours and 2 TB for that month....no calls.

83 down, 17 up after my contract renewal but sadly $155/month for only internet service.....expensive....but this is phone,T.V. and internet for me

These service providers sure love charging for nothing but heaven forbid you actually use a service.

It's ridiculous to me that you see certain people being harassed for a single end user connection when there's a plentiful amount of available bandwidth at the local telco.

Didn't use your mandated funds to actually upgrade your infrastructure? How is that anyone else's problem?

I'm glad I don't have Comcast. I used to pay 40 bucks a month for 50 down and 50 up with no data limit. (It's now free for my internet because I got a job at my ISP). We have gotten a great deal of customers because of Comcast's greedy business model.
