[dailytech] Comcast to Users: Stop Using the Internet so Much, We Will Cap You - Page 5

Looks like by the time I am able to get anything other than satellite or dial up internet all the other options aren't going to be much better. I have a friend who lives in Tupelo who has Comcast and he already has a 300gb data cap.

Ugh fair use policies are so incredibly fail. They are not fair for the consumer at all. They even sell internet tv and cap it at 200gb per month. Sucks if you fall asleep and have your tv on while streaming some super hd movie. Silly silly.

I need to walk away before I get an infraction (Click to show)

Didn't read article, so I'm praying that when I do see these caps, it will be at a minimum of 500GB.

Either way, it's been a hell of a ride, Internet. I guess my last hope is that myself and almost everyone in the states can swap to someone like AT&T or something and it makes copper change it's mind...

So it begins to go nation wide now huh? I've been capped at 300GB a month since December here in metro ATL. I have 3 courtesy 50GB overage allowances for the first year, after those are used up/expired it's $10 for each 50GB over my cap. They are really my only option other than ATT which has a 150GB cap AFAIK, Google fiber needs to reach out here asap. Really wish I could stop supporting CC but as I said I have no other option.

Comcast really needs to get with the times, the internet is growing and the demand for bandwidth is growing each year, so they need to learn how to adopt or someone else will move in that can and take your customers.

So in five years when probably 1/3rd to half of us will have 4k streaming services over Netflix, Hulu etc. how quickly will we go through a 500GB cap ? I'd say in under a week.

I'm on Fios but I wouldn't put this past Verizon either. They are pushing the FCC constantly to remove net neutrality rules.

If one introduced a cap, another would just say ours is unlimited and everyone would move to them. So I don't think many companies have caps here.
Although, if you downloading 'too much' was really effecting other people, then do what the mobile internet providers do over here, which is throttling your speed during peak hours.

That's similar to how it works in Japan, but NTT(the company that owns the fiber lines) does enforce a data cap of 50GB per day. Go over that, and you get a warning. 3 times(or so I've heard) and you're stuck with ADSL until NTT decides you can be a customer again.

I've lived in the USA since 2004 and it seems it is going full retard mode every single year more and more. wth.gif

My last 4 months according to Comcast: 329, 875, 529, 215 (so far) GBs usage. That is with 3 people who live in our household and are using the internet all the time for work and entertainment purposes.
