I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it's stable on 1.2v, my 8320 is at 4.2 @ 1.2v on the same cooler biggrin.gif

I don't overclock, so i am more forgiving than the old school overclockers. For me, when undervoting, 10-12h of Prime and 1 round (10 passes) of IBT at very high, have never failed. IMHO, if you pass 12h Prime, you 're good to go. But if the system is stable enough for you, then there is no rule on how much you want to run Prime. I just like to be 100% certain of my voltages.

EDIT: To save time, i do this: Start with IBT at very high. It's much quicker. When you find a voltage that IBT is stable, start running Prime. This way you don't waste Prime runs on voltages that are very unstable. For me, Prime can reveal more instabilities than IBT, but IBT is much better to weed out blatant instabilities quickly.

Yup, people overclock and run Prime95 for like 20 minutes and are "stable" Then they get a few blue screens of death and some data corruption that comes with them. Then that corruption cascades and their Windows install is borked. Then you have the guys that spend days tweaking voltages, timings etc... Run Prime95 making sure no workers drop out, more tweaking.... They get fast overclocks and stable machines.

I think a few hours is enough. I always run at least two hours. The heat really starts to kick in after running Prime95 for 30 minutes.

well my PC has not crashed BUT! For running at 4.2 its very slugish... It freezes at times (slightly) but it is annoying do you think its because the CPU is not getting enough power at 1.2v?? I ran prime all last night no crash highest temp 58c.. But why so sluggish?

I don't know. I can run Prime95 for hours and do all sorts of things like its not even running.

Sluggishness can sometimes be attributed to the VRM throttling your CPU. While the CPU temp is perfectly fine, the VRMs are hitting a temp that forces them to throttle the CPU. Your CPU is then running at 1.4ghz on all cores, until the VRM temps lowers and hit an acceptable threshold.

You won't see this unless you are paying attention to your screen during a Prime95 test. If you are using IBT, the time column will tell you if throttling happen, because it will show that loop taking longer to complete.
