But isn't that due to rushed designed and also it seemed they pretty much ignored anything that has to do with efficiency and they were more interested in getting as much power(compute) than efficiency .

If I cared about power consumption I wouldn't be a gamer.

I wonder what exactly they mean by 'AMD's hayday''? Are we talking the AthlonXP/64 era or 5870 era?

>Not a high-end part
>Is R9 series
>[Skepticism intensifies]

I wonder if they're reserving the R9 275X name for a rebrand of the 7870XT, or if Tahiti has matured enough that there aren't that many bad chips. In addition, competing with Maxwell? Well, performance-wise, Pitcairn/Curaco already does that. Power-wise, there is nothing else that good. So this must mean that this would be around a 7870XT or a GTX 760 in terms of performance if the predicted name is true, but that would require far more than just 60W, but I bet it could be done off a single 6-pin plug if the efficiency gains are that good. Perhaps R7 265X is a possibility (or basically a PS4 GPU - between the 7850 and 7870 rebrands, just like the PS4), or maybe R7 255X (7770 reband = 250X). I don't know, but the name doesn't sound right given the GPU they're trying to compete with.

TL;DR, it's an exclusive story from VideoCardz and it doesn't make sense thinking about it.

While I would normally agree here, in the warmer months here in Florida, running my fx-9590 and 290x oc'ed in the same room as me while gaming really makes me reconsider always wanting max settings.

I've got a feeling a 70*f room with medium graphics settings is far more enjoyable than a 80*f room with max details. No amount of cooling will help either, the heats got to go somewhere. rolleyes.gif

Has AMD made any discreet GPU chip in GlobalFoundries the last few years? That might be the biggest news. Aren't they only using TSMC for those now and only recently we had news of GlobalFoundries/Samsung on 14nm and 20nm?

Most likely they going to replace the curacao chip with the top chip performing close to 7870XT but with a single PCIE 6pin.

This is yet another Radeon 7790 again, testing the waters b4 doing a full swing on R9 300 series later.

Hopefully the massive improvements they made to GCN on Beema/Mullins will be translatable to big chip GPUs
