Coolermaster HAF 932 and USB 3? Should I think about a new case?

Hi guys,

I'm starting to think about upgrading to a 4770k. The mobo will therefore have USB 3.

Atm, I have USB 2.

My system is about 4 years old now and I was going to keep my case and just swap over the mobo inside...however, I don't know if my current HAF 932 will work with USB 3. I didn't want this to be anymore expensive but I'm upgrading to be current.

I've looked online and see that the HAf 932 advanced is available with the USB 3, so I'm assuming my current one isn't?

What do you think I should do?

Thanks smile.gif

Just buy usb 3.0 in 5,25'' bay. A lot cheaper than getting new case.
As for the case, for air cooling, it is still one of the best cases out there.

I didn't think of that.

Seems a great way to go. Unless there is another air cooling case worth upgrading to?

Would you advise to still use the I/O USB 2 already on the case? If I plug in the USB 2 to a USB 3 port on the mobo....would it still work ok? I assume it would still work but just at USB 2 speeds?

Depending on the MB you get...
Some MB (AsRock Gaming/extreme) actually come with an extra front-panel-usb3-ports-and-ssd-holder AND a rear slot with USB 3 ports

You just run the existing USB2 from the case to the USB2 headers on the MB, and use the USB3 header/cable with the frontpanel.

You'll need some converting stuff to use a USB2 port on a USB3 header.. and yes, it would still be USB2 speeds

Now, you could take the whole I/O panel on the HAF apart, pry out the USB2 ports and replace them with the USB3 ports from the frontpanel/cable which comes with the MB

Possibilities are endless..... all of the above is a lot cheaper as getting a new case smile.gif

But if you really must buy a new case... smile.gif
