Xbox 360 slim help!!!

hey,

i opened up my xbox to take away all the dust from the inside and to put some thermal paste on.
i was going to put thermal paste on but desided not to.
so after defeating the dust i then put the xbox back together only to be welcomed by the red eye of death and a blank tv screen.
iv tried everything. iv tried hdmi cables and av. iv tried a new hardrive and still a red eye and blank tv screen.
i now have the xbox in bits and when i take the motherboard out of the metal thing and shake the motherboard theres a rattling sound from (i think) behind the heatsink . i have plugged in the xbox and turned it on and with no fans and the heatsink still gets hot so the cpu is still active. iv ran out of ideas .. can someone please suggest something

many thanks,
steven

Yeah I suggest you throw it in the garbege lol. Joke. No it sounds like you broke something if the motherboard is making a rattling sound. How did you manage to break it anyway? I remember when I modded my old 360 I opend it hundreds of times and nothing ever broke, there is a fix for the red ring of death but iam no xbox expert. If I were you I would just build myself a gaming pc and stop wasting time with xbox 360 lol. Check craigslist they sell them cheep.I

Sounds like maybe one of the X-Clamps has popped off.
Unscrew the mobo again and pop it out, check the clamps are secure wink.gif

They are identical I think hardware wise, the only difference being Black case vs white case. One model had HDMI and the other just standard hook-up with both versions. But I switched the case from a regular xbox with an Elite and everything was exactly the same. After I started mesiing wround with Pc gaming I tried playing 360 one time and wow, I can never go back to that anymore! I hope your able to fix yours bro, Look-up some red ring of death fixes on the Internet.I don't know what else I can possibly do to help you. thumb.gif

I have fixed RROD on my xbox 360 multiple times before. My 360 was one of the older white models,so hopefully this advice is applicable to your xbox. There are two methods of doing so:

1. Replace the X clips with screws and washers that you can get from your hardware store (applying new TIM of course). Make sure the washers are put on the heatsink side of the motherboard, this makes sure that the heatsink isn't overtightened and you damage the chips.
2. Take 16 pennies in stacks of 4. Wrap each stack in electrical tape so no part of the penny shows, apply TIM to one side of each stack and 'stick' them to the four RAM chips on the underside of the Xbox motherboard.

Both of these methods require a final step, what I call the 'burn-in' step. Unplug your HDD and AV cable. Wrap the xbox in 2-3 heavy towels, turn it on and leave it for about 15-20 mins. This step overheats the xbox resetting the heat limit for the RROD, and also is good for making sure the stacks of pennies stay snug on the RAM chips if that is the method you used. After the 'burn-in' step take the towels off and let it cool down before turning it back on.

I hope some of this helps you!
