Build for my 10 year old brother

Thread Starter
So my parents gave my brother some cash to build a new gaming computer for his birthday and my moms typist job work at home (legal typist or something). I moved out recently and my bro used to ALWAYS use my rig when I wasn't home to play minecraft, rift and a few other games and he has been disappointed since I left that he can't play any of his games.

We had a total budget of about $700, and decided to go to microcenter on the day he got the cash. I didn't really have to do my research that I do when I build my own rigs but I had a general idea.

We got to MC and the i5 4570 was a good price, as well as a Asrock Fatality Killer motherboard so we opted for that and picked out a red color scheme. Next we picked up the Corsair Carbide Spec 02 case, probably something nobody on this forum would use since its sub $75 bucks but it was actually decent build quality minus a few things I'll mention later.

I wanted to get him a SSD or hybrid ssd but the cost was too much considering good WD drives were $60 on sale at MC, so we got a 1TB drive. Picked up a 22 LED monitor and called it a day.

We ended up getting a GTX 570 from a good friend I've gamed with for over 8 years that is being sent to us, I gave him my logitech G500, our sister got him a corsair k40 keyboard, and our aunt bought him a logitech g230 headset.

Final Parts List
Intel i5 4570 (non k)
Z87 Asrock B85 Fatality Killer Mobo
1TB AZEX WD Blue
8GB Crucial 1600Mhz Ram Kit
Corsair CX750m psu (kinda wish we didn't buy this)
Corsair Carbide Spec 02 Case
Corsair K40 Raptor Keyboard
Logitech G500 Mouse
Logitech G230 Headset
EVGA GTX 570 Video Card
AOC LED 22 Monitor

Some pictures

Driving to Microcenter is a 1 hour 30 minute drive from where we live.

All the parts, he was nuts inside the store drooling over a bunch of stuff. We saw a all white BENQ monitor, white fractal design case with a GTX titan inside and he went bonkers with all the lights inside lol.

I actually really liked the motherboards color scheme, if the caps weren't gold it would of been perfect.

I had him install the ram sticks, gotta start him building young! All i really did was install the CPU and CPU cooler, I supervised everything else and then did cable management.

The didn't feel overly cheap but it was very light, you could definitly feel a quality difference in the paint from the Corsair C70 Vengeance I own and this one. This case has those types of thumbscrews that are not supposed to get lost after unscrewing them but I noticed whomever or whatever screwed them in at the factory overtightened them and scraped some paint on the back. Not noticeable though.

PSU Install

Breadbord

I always breadboard, my first system had bent motherboard pins and it was impossible to diagnose because I had a very small case that gave me NO room to work in.

Small hands come in handy!

messing around with the red LED strip he had to buy

Everything works.

AS of now the machine has windows running, steam installed and I transferred all of his old minecraft stuff from my rig to his. I will post more pictures when he gets his desk, the GTX 570 comes and his other gear. Plus I'm not at my parents house right now.

Your 10yo brother plays Rift? awesome! I used to play, but through a string of bad luck and college / full time job, I had to quit. I loved it, played since like 1.5-1.6 or so.
