[Verge] Surface Pro 3 is designed to destroy the laptop(Review added) - Page 27

As a college student myself, I can essentially take notes with just my tablet alone, and at the price of $900 for just an i5 that is all I need. And chances are, microsoft's surface pen is a lot better than your tablets (minus pressure sensitivity levels). College students don't need power, even an i3 is enough, i5 is enough for gaming like league of legends and video browsing and even coding for crying out loud. This thing yells portability. Sure it might not be right for you, but there's a huge market for this.

im a college student too and i barely ever seen anyone using tablets for actual notes in class, it's all laptops or pen and paper. i don't see the appeal taking notes with a stylus at all. i can type 10x faster. and i don't find taking notes with a stylus appealing in general. pen+paper offers a lot better physical feedback than any stylus i've ever used

why would I want to buy a laptop-replacement when I more than likely can't install different Operating Systems on it like I can with normal laptops?

Considering I'm a Computer Science major, yes I need power. Anything below a dual-core i5 wouldn't cut it for me. A dual-core i7 wouldn't cut it for me. And I can count on one hand how many students I've seen take notes during class on a tablet, including my roommate's gf who has an iPad because it was cheaper than a laptop.

As a Computer Science major myself, my thinkpad's weak Core 2 Duo is more than enough for notes and assignments I do, as I use my desktop for the actual work.

Though even if I didn't have my desktop, it would still be adequate for the work.

I can tell you why I use stylus because try taking notes that has alot of graphs and math equations using a keyboard.

That’s if you judge it by laptop standards. By tablet standards, it’s a massive machine, with a gigantic 12-inch screen that weighs in at a relatively heavy 1.76 pounds. It’s much lighter than most laptops, but definitely not in the same class as the iPad Air, which weighs only a pound.

Hurrah for biased reviews!

Verge have always been prone to send out a fast "3 day review" with just general impressions and shallow user experience. It is useful to read but I'd wait for Anandtech's more detailed(espically with performance reviews & battery benchmarks) review.

Still, thanks for posting that link, +rep thumb.gif for you and it is added to the OP.

Agree. Anandtech and notebookcheck have the most thorough and objective reviews around.

Even more LoLs come from reading the Verge review comment section. Apple and MS shills going back and forth on MBA vs SP3 in screen(MBA's terrible TN) quality and battery life (SP3's 7hr 50min battery life getting assailed heavily). Fanboy wars are the most amusing entertainment on tech websites imo.
