NUB QUESTION for SOCKET 1150 WATERCOOLING

Thread Starter
Hi All,

Getting a Watercool Heatkiller CPU 3.0 Ni-BL water block for 1156/1155/1150. Backplate is optional. Will go on a 1150 Z97 mobo.

Someone told me I don't need the optional backplate for 1150 & 2011. Is this correct ?
In my head, I thought 2011 was the only socket you don't need a backplate for. headscratch.gif

Haven't got my motherboard yet, and have never worked with a socket 1150 board before.

Can someone who watercools on a 1150 (Z87 or Z97) board please let me know if I should get the optional backplate or not.

Cheers,

Nubby Raksy.

1) Whenever I see the word NUB used, It's usually because you're 11 and going to argue with everything that's said to you. If that doesn't describe you, spell it "newbie" and you'll seem a lot less new... also, loose the caps lock. Not only is it annoying it's scientifically harder to read something in all caps.

2) Yes, you will almost definitely need a backplate for socket 1150.

If you pull up the NewEgg listing of your motherboard, look at the image of the back of the motherboard. notice the lack of a metal plate that extends past the socket (the rectangle top-center of the image)? That means you need a back plate. There may be 1 or 2 socket 1150 boards that come with this already, but I haven't seen one yet.

You should always have a backplate,it greatly reduces the stress of the block pulling round the socket, deforming the board.
