evga doesn't pay him a dime, only msi.

it doesn't matter if he gets paid or not, as far as we are concerned, this is a free software for us to download.

DEF PAID...

If you buy an MSI card you are PAYING for the app. Although indirectly it is no more indirect than the fact that you are PAYING for those free games. Unless MSI was given those games for 100% free you paid for them. Money is coming from somewhere and it isn't from the CEOs personal bank account or a charity or donation system.

I will, but I'll explain to you why I get upset reading comments like the one I originally replied to. In this day and age, you can get just about anything -- incredibly handy software for example -- for nearly free or free. If there is some issue, I don't bother making a fuss about it. I go send an email, bug report, or post on the forum in a respectful way about the problem or try to Google for a solution/workaround. Maybe I read into the post I replied to, but folks, it's free (maybe not according to you, GoldenTiger). You aren't entitled to any updates or added features. What if MSI decides you have to register your card or buy a license? I sure as heck will be out of luck because I'm broke, lol and I've never used MSI for my own build or the other builds I've done for folks. I'm sure people will flock to the next best free software.

Anyway, I'll stop.

Their forums have had many posts by him documenting that he is paid by MSI to keep the software up to date.

From the (only) Afterburner dev:

I'm not a company employee and have primary medical software/hardware programming related job and (surprise!) real life as well. MSI Afterburner is a single man project which doesn't assume constant fulltime work on it and most of the recent beta functionality additions (such as CPU and iGPU monitoring, video prerecording and hardware accelerated H264 encoding via QS, NVENC and VCE and many many more) are not even supposed to be inside AB and not paid by MSI, I simply like programming and add what I find interesting to implement for myself. So "we don't want to get on the beta trend" doesn't work.

Source.

Also, on RivaTuner licensing:

Source.

I also read that MSI only contracts him to update Afterburner with major, desired features, but I can't find the source for that. My take-away was that all of the beta releases were done of his own volition, without pay; in fact, perhaps he can only release "official" versions with direction from MSI (or else he chose to release "unofficial" versions as betas).

But this information will get lost in short order, and the stream of indignant Afterburner users is endless.

Works fine on every BETA past B15.

I also lost voltage control on my 290X (reference power color) when I updated to 3.0.0 final.

Still trying to determine if it's MSI AB or the new 14.6 drivers.

Same issue.

Looks like it's back to Beta 19, unless it's expired.

Edit: Beta 19 works fine.
