Big plans, Small Budget - Page 2

You could bong cool, but also you can just use copper pipes like real plumbers use, it cant be that hard ya know? I guess do whatever needs to be done to save some money, you need tubing, resevoir, radiators, cpu block, gpu block, fittings, pump, then in the end figure out what color you want the water to be.

Cut some corners and be cteative, you can find or build most of the stuff yourself.also dont forget about used parts, sometimes threre is fantastic deals for usef gear.Good luck brother we are all behind you!

I'm thinking of using hard acrylic for the pipes, because acrylic is pretty cheap here (similar cost to normal hoses) and I'm decent at working with it. Copper looks cool as, but it's pricey and high temps are required to work it. I'm just sticking to my strengths out of fear haha. Im thinking of a predominantly black and electric blue themed build, TRON style. Thoughts..?

I've already got 2x EVGA GTX670-FTWs (2Gb) ready to go in. From ebay, only $200 each... not too angry about that. thumb.gif And I've given them both a modded bios thats got them locked at 1228MHz and stable. They can go higher for gaming, but this if the highest they can go being 24/7 F@H stable. I find the kepler boost scaling to be a little laggy in online FPS's. Like if I dive into a heavily populated firefight there's a bit of lag before the clocks pick up. So I just locked them at full speed.

If I end up needing extra performance I might get a third one. But I'll see how it goes with just two to begin with. (one is in my current scrap rig just to keep me entertained. It's mated to an athlon x2 64..... So bottlenecked hahaha)

Yeah, I'm going to have to get pretty thrifty. Ive seen some people using mini bongs inside their case that then vent outwards, theyre pretty neat, like acrylic bongs mounted internally. Apparently they work well in a pinch. I'll see how inventive I can get. Hopefully I can pull it off... Im thinking of putting a few rads around, and if its still not enough, then I'll put a bong or something in the loop as well... I dunno, I guess I'll see where inspiration strikes

Thanks man for the wishes, and the welcome. I look forward to when I can update next, hopefully I can share with you guys a good build story here, and greetings from Aus to Chicago. biggrin.gif

Your running a x2 athalon?Wait is that the old Amd chip were talking about here? Like from ten years ago?If so Iam not to familar with the performamce on those, I heard they were real good back in the day! It might be in your best interest to upgrade to something newer? I think I saw your post saying your gf bought you a motherboard? Are you going Amd or Intel btw?

I can give u some pointers if your on a budget, I would be looking for a used Phenom II x6, Fx 8120,8150,6300,6350,8320,8350 lol. I have a fx 6100, a A10 6800k Apu trinity, and last but not least my Fx 9370 thats my pride and joy, the fastest cpu ive Ever owned, damm thing hits 5ghz with just 2 points of cpu multiplier increase! But its a power hog man.

Yeah your gonna have a major bottleneck running old equipment like that, maybe even look into a used Intel 2500k or 2600k? Keep us updated iam looking forward to see what your gonna do,.good luck bro we are all behind you.

Haha no, thats my spare rig I'm talking about there. Umm, the best way for me to explain it is; I have 4 PC's currently. (When I was a kid, my first computer I built was called Ug. All my computers since are called a derivative of "Ug")

-My HTPC is called "Pug", (the P being pentium) has a 9500gt nvidia and a Core Duo at 3.4GHz and 3Gb of slow mismatched ddr2. Nothing special, but its power efficient, quiet, and it has a ton of storage. HDMI out, surround sound card. etc etc. Usual htpc stuff

-My Dell laptop (which I'm posting from) is called "Nug", (N stands for Nicole, a friend of mine that i bought it off). Nothing exciting, some low end radeon chip, and a 2.3Ghz dual core intel powering Ubuntu. Its enough for goat simulator, minecraft and internet on the fly so I'm happy. Very reliable too

-My in-progress rig that this thread is about is called "UgZero". It's sort of my first attempt at the high(ish) end since the original Ug, hence the "zero" namesake. It currently has a gigabyte 990fxa-ud7, and two GTX670FTW's, a 1tb hdd for big storage, and a 750w psu. Parts coming soon are 4x 8Gb sticks of kingston ram 1866 ram, a 60gb ssd for the OS, and maybe a third gtx670ftw, and watercooling equipment. It's basically what the child version of me wanted to build smile.gif

-The main computer I use currently is called "Thug". Basically because is a hobbled together mess that's really loud. It's the one with the Athlon x2. I had a pretty decent rig a while ago (Glug) but the ex kept it. That sucked. But I moved on, and built Thug out of scraps I had around. It has that ancient dual core, originally 3ghz but its now sitting at 3.29 stable. It usually has a 8800gt nvidia card in it. But while I'm building this new computer; Thug has borrowed one of UgZero's gtx670's. The swing from gpu bottleneck to cpu bottleneck is hilarious to experience. But it plays Crysis 1 and BLOPs2 at acceptable framerates now, so itś enough to keep me entertained during the build. rolleyes.gif

Sorry about the confusion PcGamer. And thanks for the help/wishes. Im going to see just how high i can get the 8320 to go. I have a bet with a mate for a pizza as to who can get a better clock out of their build (He runs with intel...). GO TEAM AMD biggrin.gif I'm looking forward to updating this thread with progress real soon biggrin.gif

Thanks man, I'll update as much as i can, New mobo arrives soon!!!

I'm tempted to bong cool, just for that performance/dollar ratio..... Im not sure yet though. I want to keep it stealth, but bong cooling is so cheap and effective haha

Do eet! Do eet! Do eet!

Danner Mag 5,$2 showerhead,Waterblock and some plumbing parts thumb.gif

PM if you have any questions. My bong works so good wubsmiley.gif

Run it by your gf 1st...females tend to eye it like wth.gif

Long time overclocker, but due to an ex who shall not be named I have been broke the last few years. Now I'm free and rebuilding my old hobbies (Gaming and fast cars. Subaru Liberty Turbo and a Chrysler 300C)

Quick update; my super cheap ebay pumps arrived today. $5 a pop. They'll probably fail. But I'll happily pay to upgrade to a real pump when the time comes
$20 for an experiment... I'll give it a go. Run them all in series and hopefully I'll have some head pressure... here's hoping... rolleyes.gifthumb.gif
